M5 Replica Wheels Installed

Got my M5 reps put on today, as well as upgraded to Akebono Euro Ceramic pads and painted my calipers with a silver G2 kit.

To each their own, haha. I wanted to do something different, and they look much better in person than in pics for some reason. Might be the black in the wheels that does It. I just couldn't stand the stock wheels anymore, thought they looked boring. Once I get my black CF pieces put on, I think it'll look better with the black in the wheels.

Fair enough, individuality wins IMO... It may well be the pics as some angles they look great, like the side profile, things have a definite edge in person.... I did the black hardtop on a silver car... In the pics it looks ok, in the flesh it looks wow. So I agree with your comments , a small drop and I think these will come alive.

Black roof is one of the next things I'm considering to tie it all together. I have an Mstache, CF deck spoiler and CF mirror covers coming, should work well when it's all done.

Hmmm.

I kind of like them. I don't see enough M5s to associate them with a larger sedan, so maybe that's got something to do with it.

Bottom line, if you like them, that's what matters.

I've yet to ever seen an M5 in person, I just know I love the shape how the machined face highlights against the black background. And I didn't spend enough on them to feel like I have I keep them forever, thankfully. Eventually I'd like to trade out to different wheels, but for now I'm a lot happier than I was with my old stock ones.

Well, they are replicas, so.... Lol. Guess I've never understood why replica is a dirty word but a horribly hideous set of non-OEM style wheels isn't. Metal is metal is metal, as long as they are made well. I can appreciate not liking a style, though. I'm not really a fan of CSL style wheels, or chrome anything, or rivets or giant lips on wheels, so that's fair enough.

Replicas are often cheaply made, heavy, and in your case, too small to look right (real ones are 20s). That's why they have a bad name.

Unfortunately so are a large amount of aftermarket wheels, replicas or not. These happen to weigh 4 pounds lighter than my stock wheels did, which I'm happy about. And with all the potholes in Indianapolis, I wouldn't dare run anything larger than 18s anymore. I've ruined several sets of 19s before because of our roads, not trying to do that again, haha.

i loved the look of the 19' m5 reps i had on my coupe... they were really easy to clean too.

i think with a slight drop, and maybe a bit more aggressive shoulder to the tire these will look quite at home.

any reason you went with the black background instead of the gunmetal? that may be what the fuss around the "replica" word is about.

I went with the black because of all the additional black accents my car has/will have (dark tint, CF accents, black painted roof, Mstache.) I thought about the gunmetal, but in the end I think the black will compliment everything better and makes the silver machined face pop out more.

But that's the wonderful thing about wheels, they're all very subjective and not at all permanent. If a few months from now I end up not liking them when everything else is done, all I have to do is buy a different set.

I've never been afraid to try extreme/unique styles; sometime it works, sometimes it doesn't, either way it's fun to try things out.

Your pics with the M5 reps are actually part of my inspiration to get them. The 19s definitely fill it out better, but I just can't go that route. Hopefully I'll be dropping with some H&R coilovers later this fall and that should help.

No_Do,

Is that the same Rear Diffuser that dubsesd has?
I like it. Haven't been able to turn one up in quite a search.

Sure is, got mine on eBay. Here's the link:

It's definitely a nice, inexpensive little mod.

No problem. Only thing I would recommend is to get a can/bottle of matte black paint and paint the screws that come with it before installation.
