Garage List
Red light, no roof

I replaced the pump motor on my 08 Z4 without removing the roof. Now when I open the roof all is good. Roof actuates, goes into the well, led lamp goes out, motor stops. However the roof won't close. Motor runs but roof won't move. If I pick the roof up appox 1/4-1/2" then then try to close it, using the pump it does close. No problem. So now I open the roof, but stop just short of were the roof would stop automatically. But that means I drive around with that light blinking if I have the top down. Is there an adjustment or sensor that can moved to fix this?

There are two sensors on the hinge lifter located behind the drivers seat. You'll have to drop the top to see them.

Unless something is lose, I honestly wouldn't play with them. Your issue might be a sensor but, it also might be the start of the convertible controller going bad. Since the top is now coming down and with a little help going back up I wouldn't fool with it.

In the trunk next to each hinge there is a black plastic knob. By rotating both of these knobs you can raise the dash in the rear window to make more cargo space in the trunk. Doing so locks out the roof motor.

Check to see that both knobs and the dash are fully in the lowest position.

I’m delighted that you found this helpful. By the way, lots of other good info in the owners manual at https://cdn.dealereprocess.org/cdn/s...mw/2007-z4.pdf

I had not yet begun to play with the roof beyond testing it when I drove it b4 buying. It squeals, but it works fine. The noise worries me.

I had downloaded the manual from another thread. Was that you too?
