soft top operation...

my 04 top would only go up as long as the car wasn't traveling over 5 mph.
does anyone know if that is still the case with the Z4's 06' and up?

My 2006 Z4MR will only allow top-up/top-down operation with my foot on the brake, and the car stopped (or nearly stopped).

I had a 2004 Z4 that let me put the top up if I was going under 10 I think. 10 or 5. I forget. It did allow me to continue accelerating once the motion started, but not accelerate too much.

I had a Honda s2000 where I cut the safety wire under the dash so all I had to do was engage the e-brake (1 click) which did not slow the car down whatsoever and it would go up. I always kept it under 25 mph when I put the top up (or down) though. It really came in handy when there was a instant downpour......put the hazards on, moved over and had the top up in no time without coming to a stop.

yea i would never try that in the BMW... for all I know the entire car will shut down and warning lights will flash at me and self destruct on me lol

BMW electricals are one of a kind... complicated one lol

Haven't tried it because I'm afraid the top will fly off traveling at any speed lol. Will test it out though when it stops raining.

I honestly do not understand why you need to put the top up/down while moving. It's a sail while moving.

As far as putting the top up in a sudden downpour, there is always the shoulder.

I can put up a completely manual MGB top in 40-45 secs....

With my 07 I have to be stopped to start the top down but you can roll off after it starts but not very fast. GH

I was under the impression that you had to have the handbrake up, might have been for my z3 though...
