Update on Trade in for Lotus Evora
I recently posted about considering trading in my 07 Z4C for a 2011 Lotus Evora. I went for a second drive and have decided against it.
The car is listed at $75,000 CDN MSRP which for the performance and styling is quite attractive. The difficulty lies in the fact that you can not actually get an Evora for $75000. Once you factor essentials (you pretty much can’t order a car without certain options) then the price leaps to about $87000 or $88000 CDN, factor in taxes and you are looking at a $100,000 dollar car out the door. That price point opens up a whole other world of cars. The car also lacks the accessibility of the Z4C. Driving it can be a chore what with parking that necessitates a rear view camera, watching for clearance and very poor outward visibility. It also doesn’t feel that much faster than the Z4, even if it is slightly faster. The handling is far superior I’ll admit. Looks like I’m still holding onto my Z4C for now.I do have my long term sights on the next gen cayman possibly. The spy shots reveal much better styling. Or I may just go for the scion FRS which actually looks like it may be a very fun car with decent styling. We shall see. |

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. After driving the Evora I fell in love. But like you said, the one I drove was 88k NOT 75k.
Although I was pondering the idea of factory ordering a 2+0 car with no options other than sports pack. And it's so funny you mention the FRS as I've been watching that car develop with GREAT interest. Might be an awesome daily driver if I plan on keeping the M coupe. Or even a realistic step back in order to set myself up for something even better (gallardo or V8 vantage?) |

I think it's a good decision. They're replacing the evora with the elan soon anyway.

funny I also pondered the 2 + 0 with just the sport pack, but they couldn't give my specifics on what the base interior looked like and then there was the whole problem of not being able to reverse
the scion concept pics look quite nice, if they get the engine right, it could be the best value to come out since the Z4C/Z4MC came out |

The Scion FRS is a brilliant looking car. I'm guessing it will be a hell of a value when it's released as the other Scions have been. I'm wondering why they haven't chosen it as a next generation MR2 though. The Scion badge just doesn't have the same cache and this is looking to be a relatively high price point for the Scion line. Regardless, looking forward to seeing it.

If it's released as an MR2, it would have to be badged as a Toyota...but Toyota doesn't want to make anymore sporty cars right? So...there goes that =P

...and they'd have to put the engine...you know, in the middle, behind the driver. On the bright side, they did finally realize that wrong wheel drive is just that, wrong.

For that kind of money (~100K) I would be looking at BMW M3 or a Porsche 911 CS4s which can easily be used as a daily driver and you don't have to worry about clearance issues as much. The Lotus is a great car, but it seems much more track oriented than street.

You can get into a 2011 Lotus Evora for high $50,000-$92,000 currently so very affortable. They are all over CL and I recently saw one for like $62,000 with like 40 miles on it.

Unfortunately the Lotus situation in Canada is totally different, barely any cars get sold so used prices stay high. Also, we can't import them from the states due to Lotus not providing RIV with import data (in order to protect their Canadian dealers).
