Strange rubbing/humming/vibration noise on startup?
Guys,
I've got a strange low level hum/vibration/rubbing noise when I start my car. It's not very loud. It's completely random. I went out to my garage and started my car the past three days. No noise on Wed and Thur... start the car today and the noise is back. I drive it around for a little bit and it goes away. It's very noticeable when I'm sitting inside the vehicle but not when I'm outside the vehicle. I'm pretty sure it's not coming from under the hood. It seems like it's coming from below me or behind me. Could it be something with the exhaust/catalytic converter, axle, drive shaft or differential? Also, every now and then when I turn my key to position 2 (ignition switched on) I can here an electric motor sound that lasts for about a second. It sounds kinda like something is being opened or closed. Kinda like the sound when you lower the top. It also sounds like it's coming from under the car or behind me. Anyone know what that sound is? I can usually here it happen after it's been sitting for a while. If I start it and stop it after the initial start it doesn't make that sound. BTW, the car has 19,000 miles on it. Thanks, Last edited by SimpleMan; 06-14-2013 at 10:00 PM.. |

I have a similar problem. But the noise paces with the rpms. Also I only noticed it the last two days when the weather here in ny has been excessively hot and humid... 90 to 100* f.
