Smile It was time for another Z4

Hi,

I joined this forum when I had my third Z4 in Germany back in 2006.

Times change and I live now in Florida. Had several cars between but I always came back to the Z4's till I moved to the US and had a two year break.
This car is just amazing in so many ways.
Beautiful, Sporty, modern car benefits with the classic roadster features. Just love them!

When I came to the US, I bought a Viper SRT10 to have the "mother of roadsters" but this car didn't satisfy me like I wanted it.
We also had a CamaBro vert to buy as a hand down from my wife's family. They just kept it for my wife and I had to buy it.

Viper was gone pretty fast and I bought a Boxster S what left the garage 3 month later for an M3 vert. (still have her)
Addition was a X3 for my wife and my new born son.

The M3 moved to a weekend ride status and I was driving the Camaro as my DD till I had enough braking down with this POS.

Was looking for a DD replacement and found "Suzi" on eBay. She is a 2004 Z4 3.0 6mt, she was for sale by the first owner who lived 4 miles away from my house.
Fully loaded with extended leather new England (includes heated seats in FL). Everything what you could order in this time.

Since I already had a few Z4, I know the problems and benefits of this cars. Quality wise the Z4m I had in 08 was the worst one in terms of rattle noises. Suzi is pretty solid and does not make any noises at all!

First pic after I bought her:

First washing down twice, Meguirs Compound with machine and hand and Swizoel wax for shine and protection: (Bonus: POS in the background)

third brake light was broken:

Interior and leather cleaned and Swizoel leather milk applied / polished.

When I saw that, I thought wheel spacer or new wheels?!

Tested first the 18" M67 I had laying around at this time:

New Brake light white came in:

Installed Windshield Cowl Refresh Kit:

Upgraded sound generator, Wheel spacers on the 107 wheels.

Like I always did (not on the M) I put the Aerodynamic bumper on:

Ordered the right tail light from the UK and the left from Germany:

Removed also all Z4 and 3.0 badges:

Ordered Z4 M steering wheel from Germany (love it!! One of the best mods!):

Had for a while the M67 in 18" +18mm wheel spacer in the front running.. Sorry don't have good pictures of this setup:

Bought a set M67 in 19" and 225 and 255 wheels:

That was too fast.
I added the black kidneys, MediaBridge, BMW Performance short shift kit, upgraded the GPS to night view and custom splash screen.

Last weekend:
BMW Performance wheels 313 and Hangcock 235/35 and 265/30R19 Wheels:

nice ride!

Did you run any spacers with the 107's?

PS: Those 313's look REALLLLLLY good. Can you take an outside picture with the top down? Trying to envision what these would look like on my car...except I can't do 19's...

Thanks!

I had 20mm spacers in the rear running on the 107's. I ordered 15mm for the front but had a flat tire before the spacer came in and swapped to the M67 in 18". I moved the 20mm to the front for the 18".
The 19" M67 had 15mm in the front.

I love the 313. My wife said, she can't see a difference.

I'll take a top down picture when I go home in a few minutes.

Why can't you run 19"?

I love those wheels! Actually I saw another BMW with them the other day and snapped a pic to find out more about them later.

They are not that common in the US. I think they are one of the most common mod in the German Z4 forum. Took me a while to get a set even since there are replicas in the US.
Miro 942 is the name of the replicas.

BMW performance 313 and Miro 942 are available in 18 and 19"

20mm spacers on rear with 107's flushed em out with the fender? I've been debating 15/20 or 12/15 (front/rear). Personally love the 107's, thinking about fixing the curb rashes DIY and plastidipping them black.

It's not that I can't run 19"s, I just refuse to due to living in the DC Metro Area. My last 3series I ran 19"s before I bent them all. Now I only do 18"s to offer more cushion against potholes. Z4 is my only car and my daily driver (~50mile commute in DC rush hour everyday).

The 20 in the rear (40 on axle) were perfect flush.

To be honest, the M67 in 19" had a better ride than the RFT´s on the 107 wheels. I also bought the set with the M3 sizes. 225/40 and 255/35 what offered more rubber than the 225/35 and 255/30 what are for the Z4.

Since the new wheels expose the brake calipers, I took a wire brush on my drill to clean them:

I also like the OEM exhaust sound and as my DD it shouldn't be louder. (Is already pretty sporty)
The tips are an eye sore on the stock Z4 exhaust.
I took the wire brush and drill to remove the production sleeves and gave it an nice steel brushed look with different sand papers.

I like the outcome:

I was going for an polished look first but the brushed looked great and I kept it this way.

Yes, all I used was was a wire brush bit for my drill. Didn't even take long. Taped the brake disk up and put two layer clear code on.

Thanks...

I take that as a joke with the decals and you are serious with your post.

The m54 is definitely not an replacement for an s54 ///M engine but since I still have and drive my M3 I'm satisfied with the 3.0l as an daily beater.

You have to keep in mind the Z purpose was to replace my POS Camabro beater. That is also the reason for no sporty suspension, extreme loud exhaust and mods what ruin the DD quality's. Another point was the maintenance. The M54 is hard to break, "cheaper" oil, no valve adjustment and not all the time the Damocles sword of the Vanos failure in my head.

I love my M but it scars me every time I fire her up that this could be the last time and the engine goes south. (my M has 38k miles)

Nah, I mean the little decals over those red markers over the rear bumper. I have those, I think they're called 'Dan's Decals' or somethin.

Yeah man, 3.0 liters is PLENTY sufficient!
