Square set-up for touring,no track.
Bought the 2006 Z4 (3.0 convertible) a few weeks ago. it came with the staggered stock set-up with the bloody run flats. My local tire guy suggested that I consider a square set-up, even if I have to buy new wheels.
I drive very little in the winter, don't do tracks and enjoy the long curvy drives. Please suggest to me a square set-up that needs very little modification. Maybe it does not exist, but the wisdom of this crowd is amazing. Thanks from a new Z4 driver. |

If you don't drive the car in the winter, how many miles are you logging? The cost of new wheels is probably $1000, do you think you'll save that much by running square? The problem is on a stock suspension you're limited as to how wide you can go up front so a square setup on your car might require you to go narrower in the rear.
I'm guessing a 17x8.5, high 40 offset with a 245/40-17 or 18x8.5 with 245/35-18 might work. To be safe, you could run whatever size you have in the front (presumably 8" width with 225 wide tire and just run that in the back too). It might look a little off because it'll be tucked in but then can can pick up spacers & extended bolts. But again seems like a lot of trouble at the cost of performance just to save a few extra bucks. Me personally, I'd keep staggered and get a comfortable long tread wear tire like Conti DWS and get a good alignment to get the most out of the tires. |

On a non-M, it's tricky to get anything wider than a 235 up front.

Thank you for the comment about leaving it staggered. This all got started with me wanting to get rid of the run flats and well, from there.... I think he saw dollar signs and as its true I have not owned the car very long, saw a monetary opportunity.
Unless any other ideas get floated, I will stay with the staggered set up and buy a mobility kit and go for the non run flats. |

For a Z4 non-M, we've had customers use either the 17x8.5" ET40 or 18x8.5" ET38 squared with 235 width tires and using a small spacer (~5mm) in the rear, size dependent on the actual make and model of the tire.
