Drone, What Exhausts are the Worst / Best

I really appreciate all the info that can be found on this forum. I tried searching but I am having a tough time figuring out what exhausts drone the least.

I believe Remus and SuperSprint are close to droneless(??) but I would really love to here from anyone with any exhaust that pertains to this issue. I would prefer a throatier sound, lighter weight, while not sacrificing performance.

My car is a DD and my average RPM is around 2500 - 3000, this seems to be the magic RPM for drone, so I need to find an exhaust that won't drive me crazy (I can't stand any drone).

I appreciate the help.

I would wait a couple months 3 new systems are coming to the market with very promising possibilities.

SuperSprint does drone a little between 2500-300 RPMs. Not enough to bug me though. And I even have headers done too, which exacerbates the problem if anything

Headers also made my car a bit more raspy, which actually is a huge pet peeve of mine. But I can live with that trade-off knowing I'm increasing at least 20whp

Im looking for the same thing as you, HOG. Seems like Eisenmann sport, Remus, and SS Powerloop are the only ones available with no drone. The Eisenmann and powerloop are very pricey though but look nicer than the remus.

From my experience so far:

Worst drone / APR (but I still love it )

No drone / Eisenmann Sport (Eisenmann sport/race are also the best looking IMO)

Don't overlook Arqray

I'm a drone hater too. My Arqray cans have very minimal drone only between like 1500 and 1800 rpm under rather heavy throttle - not a set of conditions encountered too often. Other than that, they come as a major recommendation from me. The rest of the system is stock. Not sure how they'll be if I get around to headers or other exhaust mods but I'll deal with that when I get there. 6lbs lighter per side than stock cans. Great fit and finish.

Raspy? Need to add a resonator somewhere. Will add a bit of weight, will not add back pressure or affect HP gains. Where to put them is the question...

Running Eisenmann Sports with oval tips. Zero drone. A little louder than stock (which I thought sounded good). Depends on your tastes if you want LOUD or mature. But they have NO drone.

Well, it's not THAT bad. Just noticeably more than before I swapped out the stock headers =P

For me personally, the top-end of the SS Race made it THE only exhaust for me. It's like as close to F1 sound as this motor is ever going to get, aside from a crazy race-build setup and/or full straight pipes lol

how loud is you car with mufflers after headers? I have had headers for a while but have been wanting to add mufflers. I want something louder and with a better tone but i dont want it to be obnixous and sound like a fart can lol

I had AA headers and RE Diablo cans on my 06 Z4M. It was much louder than stock but sounded so good. I also noticed the slight rasp. Pop and burbled when letting off the gas. Miss that in the new coupe. Once warranty is gone I will venture down this road again only with EIS cans since they are already in my possession. Probably will go with TMS coated stepped headers this time(Less $$$). No fart can sound. Now if you had headers and RPI,s, maybe it might be a little like a pissed off bumble bee.

My current setup is definitely loud, but not to a point where it's obnoxious. No fart can here =P

I'll post a link to my recent dyno session so you can get an idea of what it sounds like.

edit: here you go!

Admittedly off-topic - what's your take on fitment of these on the Z4M? I contacted them - though they advertise these for E46 M3 and Z4M, they haven't ever had first hand experience installing them on a Z4M, nor have they heard of anyone who has put them on a Z4M..... I just want a good fit - minor, very minor shield modifications or the like I can handle - I don't want to be denting in brand new header tubes....

HOG4DNR, well i've got the RPI's and they drone A LOT. If drone is a major concern then you should stay well clear of the RPI's. Havent heard any other aftermarket exhausts in person i'm afraid.

Rogue engineering Diablos can drone, so you probably shouldn't consider them. I have a slight rattle in the cabin from them right at 2900 to 3100 RPM. Sounds great at WOT, from the outside though...

I also think the Diablos have the best looking Exhaust Tips. Purely subjective.

Im going off of TMS's rep on the fitment. I must be told they will clear or I get a set of SS's from them on their dime. Too much work and trouble installing and installing if they don't fit. I know that. The AA's fit perfect. Slid right in.
