Got a Call from Germany

BMW of Germany gave me a call wanting to do a interview over the phone about my Z4MC. I couldn't at this time because of work so i rescheduled.

I was wondering if anyone else got this call and what the interview is about.

They want to personally apologize to you for screwing up the new Z?

Got the call yesteday myself-- questions about selection of my 2007 coupe versus competitor products at that time, plus follow up on the new Z4 and competitors.

The chief competitors I recall them asking about were the Boxter/Cayman, Audi TT, Nissan 370Z and any number of Mercedes models, the designations I can't be bothered to remember.

Sounds like they're planning a new M and want to know what attracted the last buyers.

If that were the case, why did they call Karaticus, who has a 3.0si coupe?

We all know that there is a new M version of the Z4 on the way. It will probably follow two to three years into the new production just like the E85 did. What gets me is how the new Z4 is trying to steal customers from Mercedes. The new Z4 drives and rides like a SLK, so much so that my father is thinking about buying it. No real convertible should have a pass through arm rest for skis!

We do? From every report I have seen, there will be no E89 ///M. They are going to make one with some M suspension improvements and maybe a few more hp out the 3.0T motor, but no true Z4M. See this: http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=316518

Well if they ask me, I'll let them know that I couldn't care less about a new Z4M. All it would be is another overpriced, overpowered landbarge. I'd rather they spend their resources on an all-new, smaller, lighter and more performance oriented coupe model. We have enough fatassed posermobiles on the market to choose from. Seriously, a new E89-based M would fill the same niche as an M6, but at least that car isn't trying to be something it's not. And giving it a million HP and a 'Ring time under a minute won't make it a better driver's car, which is something BMW sorely needs in its lineup. I'm so sick of these dead-feeling robotic "sports" cars that are all about the numbers. There ARE still people that want a tactile, raw driving experience from their BMW.

The problem is, those reports are from 2003, and they just scratched out E85 and wrote in E89.

The only way they could interest me in the E89 is to offer an M version with the current M's 4.0 in it, and not charge double what I got my E86 Z4M for it. So the odds are low...
