Fuel pump failure?

Hey guys, I have a 2006 Z4-M roadster,

Recently today I went out for a drive and in 3rd gear once i went above 3k rpm I got a Service engine soon light, traction light, tpms light, and parking brake light and the car started jerking and lost all power and died. Started up the car again thinking maybe it was a little misfire and drove down the street, and the same thing happened in every gear when I hit 3k rpm. Each time I turned off the car which would reset the lights besides the "service engine soon". I also noticed if I reved the car to 3k it would do the same thing with the 3 lights and would start to stutter. After reading e46 forums it seems like the fuel pump is most likely the culprit. Will scan for codes tomorrow. Anyone have this problem?

Need to pull the codes. The vanos system is activated at that rpm so it could be cam position sensor or vanos solenoid(s), as well as about half a dozen other possibilities......

Thanks for the reply, I scanned codes and it was the crankshaft position sensor. A trip to Orielly and 10 minutes of work in the driveway she's pulling hard until redline again.

You're fortunate it must have at least been putting out some signal because no pulses from the crank sensor is a no run condition.

You found a crankshaft position sensor for an S54 at O'Reilly?
Good catch. I'm sure this failure is in my future.

Yeah I got really lucky, they can order it for you because they carry them in stock! it's really an easy fix... All you do do is take off the intake then unclip the wire from the harness and the sensor is held on with one 5mm allen bolt.

What mileage did yours go out at? Online price seems to be $100. Might make for a good "preventative maintenance" item.

You might find one under a motor mount or motor mount bracket bolt thread.
I know I had one to refer to when I did my motor mounts, but can't find it quickly.
