That's pretty nifty, this replaces the tray next to the cigarette lighter?

I use mine all the time, I got the basic E46 one and just mounted it to the panel under the A/C controls. The same place it comes stock on the 2007+ models.

yup that's correct ill provide more pictures when I install it. It seems like getting the vents out might be a huge bitch. and maybe wiring the aux to the back of the radio.

Getting the vents out is easy, once you figure out where to stick the 0.2" slices of credit card. There's a DIY or 2 on it.
You can see the metal clips at the top if you look into the vent.
The trick is figuring out which direction to push them.

Yea, that's the one.
If you can follow my crude scribble, you have to go in through the vents with 1/4" slices of charge card and get them over the metal tangs.
Through the top vent slot, not between the assembly and the dash.
Once you finally get them placed, it pops right out, but it's tricky to get them in there correctly.

Also close the vents before you try to pull the assembly out.
