Damn, that looks brutal!

Looks like the road to O'neal Park? If so, it can get messy. There are tonnes of debris from all the overhanging trees. Usually the locals are going at or below the speed limit to let me go too fast.

Hope you guys recover quick!

First, I'm really sorry to hear about the accident and your friend. That is definitely a severely damaged car.

Second, at 17 years old I sure hope you had some sort of driving school or training that educated you on how to handle this rocket. A M coupe/roadster is a beast and even in experienced hands it can challenge you. If I were a parent, this definitely would not be a car I would give a teenager.

I hope you both have a speedy recovery.

Chris

Wow, hope for a speedy recovry for you. Posting speeds and stuff online is never a good idea unless you were doing under the speed limit. And that is advise for any event.

Agreed. Was shocked when I read the article and saw the OP was only 17. This is a very mighty car to have at that age. Hopefully both will fully recover and use this as a learning experience.

I do hope Carlos makes a full and complete recovery. I also hope there is a lesson learned that will save your life and maybe someone else's down the road. As a friends daughter said the other day, "learning comes from mistaking".

I am very happy to hear that your friend is looking good and coming around. That is the best news in the world.

That's quite a post there my friend. I respect and admire you for taking responsibility for your actions and for being straight about the whole incident and honest about the car being a weakness. That you work and pay for it yourself speaks volumes, and that you'd taken car control clinics and so on says a lot too.

I can only speak for myself here, but it is hard to resist the allure of the power and speed of these little beasts. And I'm a good 30 years older than you are....Any temptation I might have will be tempered with a thought of this thread and keeping things on the track.

Then again, like The Hack pointed out in another thread, any car is enough to get into trouble with the car is taken beyond the point skills/conditions and judgement will allow.

I got in enough trouble and was very lucky once when I was your age while simply driving my beat up B210. It all of 35 HP on a good day! All it took was a few seconds of bad judgement on my to cause what could have been a very bad day for me and other folks as well. I was lucky. It could have gone the other way for me as well.

Hang in there. You will make it through this and I have no doubt you'll come out the other side stronger. I again am very thankful your friend is okay.

Being a younger owner, what is important is that you were/are doing it right. I'm won't question that you work to pay for your car, but to people saying that giving a kid a car like a Z4M is foolish, I agree, but they're missing the point. By working to pay for the car, even if he is just paying off his parents, he has a pride of ownership that kids who are given a car never get.

Again, my thoughts and prayers are with you/your family as well as your friend and his family.

Now, ignoring how he acquired the car, he recognizes that the Z4M is a powerful and tricky car to drive. By taking it to autocrosses and car control clinics he was effectively buying an "insurance" policy against the potential for an accident down the road. Imagine how much worse it could have been if he had reacted in a different way and hit the tree at 50, or rolled the car, etc.

SSKE92, it's good to hear your friend will be ok. Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders. We all make mistakes. Take what you can out of this one and don't beat yourself senseless over it. But don't forget it either.

I personally know SSKE92, and I can vouch that he is one of the most responsible kids I know. He loved and respected that car to no end. It's a shame that this had to have happened to both him and his friend Carlos, but life goes on and they will both get through this. No doubt this will change his life in many ways, and that feeling of invincibility that we all have felt will probably never come over him again.

To those that keep saying that a 17 year old shouldn't be driving a car like an M, though they make valid points, it ultimately comes down to the driver. And that driver is gonna be human, and we all make mistakes regardless of age.

I'm glad my friend is alive and well, and I will pray that Carlos stays on a quick recovery.

Regarding myself, I know Coto plus 17 plus anything "M" immediately equals disaster. I never thought I'd let myself, especially none of my friends or family to be anything close to just a another cross nailed to a tree. I'm ashamed of what I've allowed to occur. I work and pay for the vehicle. My family, especially my parents, don't deserve the attention or embarrassment I've brought to them.

I did car control clinics, I did autocross, I was even prepping for my first track day. When the car started skidding I did what I was trained to do, slow it down and keep it straight. All the best to you dude. In a sense, your post is relieving to me. In a world where most people take the easy way out, on far less serious issues, by placing the blame on anyone/anything but themselves, it's nice to see that some people are still accountable for their actions. Sadly, people like yourself seem to be harder to come by these days. This attitude demonstrates maturity far beyond your years and will garner you a tremendous amount of respect in your life. Hoping everything works out well for everyone involved. Keep your chin up.
