Shock Mount recommendation
I ordered Koni sport yellow kit along with front and rear OEM shock mounts from ECS tuning.
However they told me that there is a 3-5 weeks lead time on the rear shock mounts. Should I stick with the OEM shock mounts ( genuine BMW) Part# is 33506777037 http://www.ecstuning.com/ES58124/ or go with an upgraded solution? The OEM shock mounts (@35.40 a piece)is not a bad deal I saw turner motor sport has the "Repair Shop" Rear Shock Mounts that carry a lifetime warranty. What do you guys think? Any tips is appreciated. http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-34...3-z4-pair.aspx

Thanks for the tip.
The car will be mostly used on the street occasional mountain/mullholland driving. Curious how long will the OEM typical last?

Mine were fine after 100k miles of DD, throwing it through turns at every opportunity.
I also went with the RE RSMs. They'll probably last a lifetime, and if they don't, you can replace them without tearing up the trunk again.

Anyone have a diy link on how to change them on a roadster? I've seen a few for the coupe, but only a few sentences describing how on the roadster. Which I have heard is a nightmare. Putting KW club sports and RSMs on this winter.

Everything on the internet is a "nightmare". If I listened to half the people and their supposed stories about installs, I'd never do the work.

& my memory is a little foggy for the details when i did this on my previous roady. But as I recall, there was a different bolt flange available that I used that let you insert it through the tower hole from the bottom. (check the R.Eng site). edit; checked R.eng; its still available. http://www.rogueengineering.com/rogue/S_BUSH/RSM.html it says e46 only, but it works fine on the Z4, or you can just cut a piece out of the normal one when i did mine I put a little stickum on the underside of the bracket when I put it in, to help keep it in place.

i wonder if that is placing excessive loads on the sheet metal where the side material is still remaining. looks like a really nice option to avoid some of the install headaches.

this was a freaking nightmare, take the rear trim apart was the longest part of the coilover install, the RSM make life a breeze afterwards.

Now I am wishing I would have bought the modified version of the shock mount. Sounds like it would have saved me a huge headache. I guess I could modify the ones I have.

If not mistaking I think their is a specific rsm made for the roadsters, so there would be no need to cut anything

I spoke to Rogue directly and the sold me the traditional mounts, not the modified ones. I asked them and they said those were only for that car and application. So, who knows.

Am I the only one that had no problem removing the trunk trim to fit new rear shock mounts wasn't a big deal?
Pretty straight foreward, I always use the TIS procedure. But then again: can & can't do is something that sits between the ears..... Also removing the rear shocks is something you only do if you replace them. There is no reason to remove them to get another job done. So the benefits of the RSM's is a bit exaggerated. Mounts and shocks typically last 60k or longer, so with most of us driving way under 10k/year that's 6+ years... There are not many here that have had ownership over the same Z for that many miles. So unless you use your car as a track car, and upgrade your shocks once a year or so it's not a real 'benefit'. But also isn't any downside (maybe price if you live outside the US and pay ridiculous shipping), so if you plan to replace them anyways... Powerflex now has poly ones. They should last a lifetime as polyurethane doesn't age like normal rubber and it has some additional dampening properties, so you can consider that as a performance upgrade. No dismanteling from within the wheelarch though.

Do you guys think the Z4MC rear shock mount fits the Z4Coupe?
Z4MC RSM part# 33526779670 Z4C RSM part#33506777037 As far as I can tell the Z4 Coupe RSM have a part# that is not interchangeable with any other platform according to Real OEM However the Z4 M Coupe RSM is interchangeable with E46 and E85 and is much cheaper $35 for a pair.
