Cup Holder (Yes I Understand it maybe silly)

Greetings all.
Yesterday I bought a 2003 Z4 3.0i. At present I only have one issue. The cup holders in the car are much higher then the center of gravity. Is there an add on "Cup Holder" (Third Party) that can be placed more to the center of gravity with in the cock pit???

Thank You.

May not be what you are looking for - but choices are limited for our Z4 machines. I have one of these and it fits and works great:

Looks pretty cool. Do you have any pictures of it installed?

Wow, Great call. I was at a BMW dealership this morning, (Because I had no idea how to program everything in the car. And I asked him what I asked you. He told my "Sure, but your going to need to dril holes to support the cup holder. That is precisely why I joined this site so I can hear all the suggestions that all you people have, instead of a damn dealership.

Again, Thank you for helping me out BIG TIME!!!

+1. Mine hold everything from a 12oz cup, to a bottle of wine. The bottom of it rests on the floot. It bends the center plastic console trim a bit, but not too bad

I use ultimate cupholders too. I was skeptical with the beverage resting on the floor but no spills to date (not that I always allow liquids inside the car.)

Bottle of wine? Now that's a cup holder!

The stock ones are good for two things I've found:

1.) Spilling; 2). Breaking.

I made the equivalent of the Ultimate Cup Holder using a $5 one from Pep Boys.
Added a little tab at the bottom that hooks under the Coco Mat.

I have also used the Ultimate cup holder. My son, the mechanical engineer, was vey impressed with the simple solution. I fully get the center of gravity issue--can't tell you how many times I have ended up with something spilled on my left leg with the tight suspension and a little bump in the road. Now, I am a little wider than the average guy so I have to move my right leg to pull the cup out, but most people would not have that issue. I love the thing!

The Zed cockpit is small enough that an Ultimate Cupholder sitting in the passenger footwell against the right side of the tranny tunnel is perfectly accessible to the driver's easy reach, and out of his/her way when not in use. We use this placement in all four cars, and the 8's a biggun'.

And yes, the stock cupholders are an accident just waiting to happen.
Here's what I did with my driver's side cupholder - Post 3:

I have two Ultimate Cup Holders in my Z4...one for each side. one of the best 'mods' I ever did in my car. I have never used the factory ones...too high and way to flakey imho.

Yep, I just got mine in the mail the other day. Works like a charm. The only thing I have found very silly in sport cars, is where they place the "Cup Holder". Heck some just don't have one. But they all place them way above the center of gravity. Like the Porsche. The cup holders are very high up like the Z4. With all the knowledge that they place in these cars and then come up with a second grader idea where to place a cup holder always amazes me.

I never gave the center of gravity much thought. Is there really a huge advantage of having my coffee at or below the center of gravity. My coffee loves to splash everywhere but I figure it was just my stiff suspension and crazy driving. I tend to hold it in my hand to avoid splashage.

Cup holders have always been an afterthought on premium sports cars and coupes. But finally, starting with the 2014 model years, BMW has redesigned their placement to fixed cup holder slots molded into the center console area. Way to go Bayerische Motoren Werke AG!

It's about time. The reason that I asked, is that on any MBZ SL series and the SLS have convenient cup holders. Granted, MBZ dose not have a true "Sport Car" But if you pick up the 2007 SL-55 AMG Supercharger, (In my opinion that is as close as they got to a sport car) all the way up to the SLS AMG Kleemann. They still don't have a Sport Car. Thus the GREAT cup holders for a 275k +......

I understand the thinking of car makers as latte's and soft drinks don't mix well with carpets and electronics. I never understood the need to have liquids other than water in a sports car. Minivan's, SUV's, Sedans? Sure, why not, as you have room to put a cup holder away from vital areas, but a Z4 is made for one thing- driving! I don't allow drinks of any kind in my Z4...
