Has Anyone Done This to Their Automatic Z4?

Has anyone bought these newer style paddles and done this (left paddle for down shift, right paddle for upshift - delete the ability to push for a downshift) in their Z4. I know a lot of pre-2011 3 series guys have done it.

Not me. I like the bigger paddles on the newer cars but I think our Push Ahead to shift down / Pull Back to shift up - on either paddle - is more intuitive once you've used it a few times.

The pushing to downshift just seems awkward to me.

For sure. All the arcade racing games I've ever played have it F1-style. I've never owned an auto and this is the first I've heard of it. I would never get used to it.

I have a car with each system and I've found the BMW pull to upshift-push to downshift with twin paddles preferable to the left downshift-right upshift setup.

I agree! My E46 ZHP has the SMG (SSG) gearbox and its pull to up shift push to down shift and I find its a great system... Mind you I use the shifter more often than the paddles but I prefer it to the M3 SMG where it is right to up shift and left to downshift...

Ive wanted to do this for quite some time. Let me know if you do it! There is another thread on the same topic on the front page somewhere if you're interested.

From what I've heard you can actually put an M3 wheel in, in which case you could just use those paddles. So if you're upgrading the wheel that might be something to consider...

I've been in contact with these guys about an M steering wheel with the paddle shifters:
