Michelin Pilot Super Sport

Anyone running Michelin PSS on their stock M wheels? I will be in the market for some new shoes this summer/fall and want to know more about these.. I have read a lot of great things, but I want to hear it from guys who have a M Roadster or Coupe.. Are they really that good? Should I go with stock 225/45 and 255/40? I wouldn't mind a more aggressive look compared to the Contis, but I don't want to sacrifice feel... Any feedback will help, and pics on stock wheels will be greatly appreciated!!! My car will probably not be tracked, but will be driven hard on winding mountain roads!

I will be mounting some pilot super sport PS2s soon. I have a set but still trying to maximize the contis I currently have on. I heard really good things about them though.

Me too.. I am going to do the same with my contis.... These PSS are not cheap, and I wanted to gather as much info as I could from guys and gals who have run them on their Z4M..

Considering going one size wider also, like 265/40 in the rear or is 265/35 better? What is best size on front?

I picked up a rear set two weekends ago. They are fairly quiet and grip really good, but that was expected.

When I was at the shop getting my alignment my mechanic told me his displeasure with Michelin tires. He showed me a set that had nearly 90% life left but the tire started to separate between the grooves (issue was more predominant with PS2's, but these are similar). He said it's to do with the corners between the grooves being 90 degree cuts instead of rounded off. Lots of high speed turning causes too much stress and they give in that area. He recommended Bridgestone RE-11 tires. You can actually see the rounding of the edge. Never noticed it before.

Not trying to sell anyone on other tires just interesting news I saw first hand. Although he does carry Bridgestone tires in the shop and not Michelin. I do know a guy that tracks his M and he uses the RE-11's and loves them both street and track.

Anyways .. so far I am really happy with the super sports in both dry and wet conditions. Just something to point out.

Thanks for the input... How do they look compared to the stock Contis? If you have stock wheels,... did you stay with the stock tire sizes? I also like the RE-11's and the Ventus R-S3's... Throw Nitto NT05's in there as well.. With that said, I am still leaning towards the PSS...

I didn't know we could put a fatter tire on otherwise I would've gone larger. I don't have stock wheels but I am running stock tire sizes.

They look different but nice. You can even see the rounded edges between the grooves in the pictures.

I know my friend is sporting 275/35/18 in the back on his Z4M. The RE's come in the stock 255 and 275, no 265.

I am running 265/35 on rear and 235/40 on the front with Michelin Sports (not super sports).

I can upload pics of those if it would help your decision. Again, mine are not the super sports but look very similar.

I have been very happy with them thus far.

I'm running PSS in 245/275 on stock wheels and I couldn't be happier. Huge difference in grip from the stock con tis. Here's a pic courtesy of aestheticstorm.

Yes 245/40 and 275/35. No rubbing front or rear (I am lowered about 0.5" from stock, not sure if the extra camber is helping). Steering is definitely firmer, but I like the the extra firmness. You also get a little more tramlining, but that'll always happen when you go wider in the front.

Look like PSS is the way I will go eventually.., but I have another question.. Why does it seem like everyone hates the stock Contisport Contact's? Just curious..

Stock Contis: noisy, hard, don't age well, poor traction compared to true performance tires (which the car should have). That's my 2 cents.

Thanks Finnegan.. I guess I am in for a real treat when I get the PSS's.. Would you stick with stock sizes?

I had Super Sports (OEM tire sizes) installed two weeks ago and the car has been transformed. But then again, the car had Goodyear Eagle F1 all season performance tires...

^ this is pretty compelling. Now I am chomping at the bit to get new tires too (if anything, just to get the stock conti's OFF the car). The current rebate on the PSS makes them a pretty good deal right now.

^ The Pilot Sport PS2's versus the PSS.... the PS2s are a little pricier but dont seem to be as well rated as the PSS. Does this have anything to do with it? I've never heard of anyone else complaign about PSS's. Ever.

Right now for stock sizes and after rebate were looking at:
$934 for a set of PSS's
$988 for a set of PS2's
- or-
$562 for a set of V12's

The PSS is a better tire, it's the PS2 replacement, however due to OEM requirements they must leave the PS2 on the market for those cars "designed for PS2" that cam OE Equipped. Get the PSS and you'll never look back, the best all around street tire I've ever driven and tested them on probably 6-7 different cars now.

Thanks... I dont need any more convincing, and I just decided I'm not going to wait for my Conti's to finishing wearing out. Going long asap!

MHeavNC... now you have me thinking about stepping up a size or two as well. I am still worried about rubbing on a stock setup though.

Not too worried about rubbing as much as I am changing the handling dynamics of the car.. Even with the stock Contis, I feel it handles great.. If we desire to go wider, it looks like we have a choice.. 235/40 and 265/35 or 245/40 and 275/35... Maybe Finnegan or someone can help up with the benefits of these over the stock sizes... Beta has already said that the 245/40 and 275/35 on his has made his steering firmer..
