Would I be correct in assuming that for our supercharged application, the biggest performance gain would come from replacing the cats of section 1 with the DKF resonators and H pipes?

Firstly id just like to say... WOW...... DKF..... youve made something of rare quality, definatly THE best solution for the z4m in terms of exhaust, youve knocked everything else out the park imo......

ok roffle.... i think for us the Best option would be, s-pipe, race cats, sport rear mufflers... This way we will get a nice sound and maximum flow, we will also keep some much needed back-pressure, being supercharged, we *could gain a good 30 crank Hp here, but will we loose valuable Tq??? i honestly dont know.....
The race cats being 100 cell will be the part that nets us our gain.....
we stand to REALLY gain from this exhaust roffle.... Big time... not to mention drop some weight.......

Will this work with our sensitive tunes???? who knows??
ESS told me they feel the stock Euro system is about as good as it gets for the s54 and they feel bmw made an amazing system...... i do agree they did an awesome job... but their can always be improvements.

Thanks man, it really does take a lot of time to put all of this stuff together. I enjoy the process though; It is a nice break my day to day life as a typical working stiff.

I hope to make Mfest this year too (fingers crossed)
Good chance we may miss it again. The baby is due in mid March

All system configurations are suposed to make similar power, but the prood will be in the Dynos.

Me too, each step I am learning something new!
There are quieter options avail. I just tend to lean toward the ear punishing side of the spectrum most of the time.

I agree with you Byron. I am blown away by having so many quality options for a low production car.

In regards to the tune, I talk to AJ with ESS about the exhaust system. He stated that the tune for our SC cars is actually more adaptive than the OEM tune. He believes that as long as our sensors are in place, that this system will be no problem. The proof will come with time and Dynos, but it was encouraging to here this new from the guy who writes the ESS tunes

Top thread mate. Looking forward to pouring over all the data and to reading your impressions.

Not much you guys can say but do you think this system will offer gains on an otherwise stock naturally aspirated car?

It is suposed to and I believed DKF is testing Dio's N/A M coupe. I will contact them to see what kind of results they are getting.

yesssss..... now were talking!!! S-pipe, Race cats, Xpipe and Sport rear mufflers!!! i think this will be just slightly quieter than the RPI's, hell it may even be on parr in terms of loudness BUT.... i think we'll loose the horrific drone and more to the point, i hope to be able to hear my motor again, i rally want to hear the s54/supercharger doing its thing!!!! its a win win for sure!!

You do amazing work! Thank you. This is what I expect to see from vendors that want to sell their parts, especially if they make any specific claims about hp gains and weight reductions.

FWIW, here are the results of my OEM exhaust weight. Not a digital scale but was consistent with our digital one until it broke.

Muffler (x2): 22lbs

Xpipe: 15lbs

Yes Sir, I am excited to get this stuff on the car for testing again. I am about 99% done collecting the test data with the OEM exhaust. Just have to run a couple of videos and then it is on to the DKF system.

If the system works as designed, the drone will be greatly reduced and possibly eliminated. If this is the case, then would be able to run a system just as loud as our RPI's but without the head pounding effects of the drone. All the raw motor sport burbles and pops during deceleration and down shifting, the same primal growl at WOT, and none of the headache. Win, Win

I'm so with you buddy. I tried to stay away from DKF's thread too, but couldn't help myself. Then I heard the sound clip. That pretty much sealed the deal. (Several friends have heard it too, the response was .) ssuming the drone has been tamed (and there's very good reason to believe it has) I'm in!

Another stellar thread by Chris!
