My Z4 is a comfortable and efficient daily driver for my commute, grocery shopping car and weekend fun car. It does it all pretty well.

Mine is still a mix of both, but I got this toy on Saturday and somehow I am thinking the Z will take a little break this winter Also looking to get the hood and front bumper redone, too many chips.

If you drive 400 miles a week - 15mpg on the M, 26.6 gallons of fuel ~ $110 - 50mpg in a Prius, 8 gallons of fuel ~$32 So after a year you spend 5720 on fuel for the M and 1662 on the Prius. So you save roughly 4k a year on fuel. Add in $500 a year for more expensive incidentals on the M (more expensive tires, etc.). So if you spend 25k on a prius, you'd only break even in about 5-6 years without taking into account things like opportunity cost or interest payments. So at least for me, it would only make sense if I could pick up the prius for 8k or less. I think that might be possible with a < 2005 model; but at that point you may have to buy a new battery for 3500 bucks and may have extra service costs on an older car negating all the savings. With a longer commute, then the numbers start to make sense.

I got my roadster for fun. I live 0.71 miles from work.
I can walk to work which takes 13 minutes or ride my bike and that only takes a very brief 3:40. There are two or three days in a row that I don't even drive the car. It's really just to cruise central Florida and learn my way around. |

I work from home, so the only use is when I pick up my kid from school or run an errand. If it is raining, I usually take another car.

My DD is Honda Pilot, I drive 40K mile each year as a salesman. I use the Z4MR to unwind and hopefully auto X this summer. Wife Loves it and uses it for shopping and errands. We drive it Easter to Thanksgiving, Sunny days only. Thanksgiving to Easter its on a trickle-charger in my garage.

That's what I'd consider mine too. I have an E34 5er for rainy days and long trips. But I still take my Z4M to work at least twice a week and usually for going out locally on the weekend. I'm averaging about 400 miles a month on the Z. And about 1K on the 5er.

I alternate between my '02 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner Quad Cab and the Zed. Depends on what's going on at work and if I'm going in early or regular time. I stop at a WaWa near work for coffee or a soft drink. The early morning clientele are a bit sketchy and in the Taco they ignore me, and the panhandlers don't take a second look. In the Z4 I get a different look and I can count on having to run a gauntlet of panhandlers to get back to the car.
