Anyone going to the L.A. Chapter Auto-Cross on Dec. 5th?

Yes they do. They don't allow convertibles for High Performance Driving Schools. Autocrosses and car control clinics are open to ALL.

I would also like to point out, that although convertibles are not welcomed at BMW CCA DSes (for various reasons I'm not going to go into details here), it does not stop you from renting a car to attend DSes if you'd like to experience driving at a higher speed that requires as much of your mental capabilities for a far longer duration of time.
Most rental companies are now starting to offer cars like the G37 and 350Z/370Z and the likes. In addition there are several rental agencies in Los Angeles that rents BMWs. It's hard for me to imagine "BMW CCA doesn't allow convertibles" being the sole obstacle to attending HPDSes hosted by the local chapters. [/rant]

you aren't going to get better if you don't try. Autox is the perfect place to safely explore the limits of you and your cars handling. They have instructors to help. If you want to learn car control, go autox. You will not be the fastest, but that isn't the point of your first year of autox.

Ooh I need to go and learn how to drive this car. I was so comfortable with the 3.0si coupe it's frustrating not being able to control the M how I want.
Unfortunately there is some kind of broken mount in the rear so I need to being it into the dealer for that. Once that's taken care of I'll be good to go.

PCA only allows porsches. You need to join Porsche Owners Club which is differnt from PCA. POC also now lets BMWs run in their time trials.

The roadster restriction only applies to DRIVING SCHOOLS where speeds can potentially reach ~140mph on the big oval. There are absolutely NO RESTRICTIONS for Car Control Clinics and Auto-crosses. Heck you can even bring a truck (I've seen it) or a Smart (I've seen it too).

Not true at all... I track with the PCA all the time. All the chapters in my area allow any car make. In fact I would say the turn out is usually 50% Porsche and 40% BMW 10% other.

Like ALL national organizations, some rules and restrictions will differ from area to area. I have heard that PCA in the Southern California area only allows Porsches as well.

PCA in southern california allows anyone at AutoX but track is much more restricted. There seems to be enough porsches to still fill PCA events. Once they start to lose drivers like POC then will let other makes in. It's just a matter of time.
BMWCCA is the only organization that doesn't allow convertibles on track here is Socal. A stock S2000,boxster or Z4M roadster probably has better rollover protection than z4 coupe. They are probably worried about people being ejected or finding instructors to fit in the cars.
