FS: 3.91 REM Polished Ring & Pinion
Hi Everyone, You might have seen the post a few months ago about Jareds ring and pinion set that he was selling. He has a Z4MC that has a stock 3.62 final drive ratio. I purchased it for my '05 Z4 3.0, unfortunately I found out the final drive ratio on the 3.0 '03-'05 models is 3.07...yikes! Probably a little bit too much of a mod for that car, so I'm putting the ring and pinion set back up for sale. This is a Timken 3.91 ring and pinion that has been REM polished. This ring and pinion came from a race shop that carefully inspected and polished the set. It is ready to go to a Z4M Roadster or Coupe owner. As most of you guys know, this is an excellent 'bang for the buck' mod that will give you a great deal more torque to the wheels while still retaining highway driving characteristics. The REM polishing alone from differential shops is $200. I paid Jared $650 for the ring and pinion set, and I'd like to get that. I think that's a really fair price given this same setup would go for $900+ if purchased online. Cash for pickup, Paypal for long distance purchases. Any questions let me know. Thanks, Chris

Any published/proven #'s as far as gains or improvement goes? Dyno's perhaps? Just trying to see if this'll actually do anything for me. I don't even know what the final drive ratio is for the Z4M yet (just got my car recently =P ). Will look into it.

wheelHP = (wheelRPM x wheelTorque) / 5252 ...an increase in the differential ratio, for example, raises wheelTorque but lowers wheelRPM (inversely proportional) so the wheelHP value does not change. That said, you will FEEL the difference in torque as you row through the gears. This is an excellent and common upgrade for our stock 3.64 ratio. This is often regarded as one of the best modifications you can do for the money. Preople also go with the 4.10 ratio but this leads to higher cruising RPMs.

Not trying to sabotage you FS thread, but be aware this is not in the diff, it would have to be installed. Check you install prices as they could double the price of this mod.

Anyway... ...installation by DiffsOnline, which is probably the nation's best place to send a differential for any sort of refurbishment or modification, charges approximately $1200 if the differential is brought to them while still installed on the car. I think $400 of that is the R&R part so if your differential is out of the car you can save a good amount of money. Either way, all single-use seals, gaskets, etc are included. They also offer the option to fully refurbish your differential housing for $200, if I recall correctly. That's really only necessary if your differential is very old and would probably be silly to do on any sub-100k mile car. Total all-in cost would be under $2000. ...compare that to fully built differentials with the 3.91 polished gears they sell for $2285 and it's pretty clear that this is a great buy. Oh and that doesn't include the $1500 core charge that gets credited only if you send in your differential in sound condition. And $95 for shipping. And then there's installation.

I'm sure. Just be certain they have done this sort of job before. The pricing I've provided from DiffsOnline should be the absolute most one would/should pay to have this installed.

If I can source a E46 M3 diff (I'd like to hang onto my original stock one), I'll be happy to take this off your hands. Unfortunately, I don't know if that will be this year.

Keep an eye on the M3forum.net... I've seen diffs people have swapped out on there going for relatively cheap.
