265 rear (same as M). Unfortunately until someone makes a decent wide fender kit I don't have the room to do much larger. No clutch-dumps for me

Nice! I think this will become such a popular mod for this car since they are such a good bang for the buck in the 2.5 trim at least

Yeah, you are hacking the car up quite a bit. I'm just doing a direct swap leaving as much unmolested as possible. Difference in end goals (dedicated race car vs fun daily driver).
I'm currently working on the trans and motor mounts (planned to finish them this last weekend but got stuck in bed sick). I have enough room to easily use 2.5" exhaust pipe and it even looks like I can use 3" pipe. |

Hey,
Well, engine work is still progressing. I have been so busy with work and family responsibilities that I have not worked much the past month. I'm taking next week off from work so the plan is to go back to work. The transmission mount is 50% finished (machined out of aluminum) and I have to make motor mounts. At that point, things should really speed up. Chris

Can't wait to see more picts. I'm considering putting an LS-3 in a 2000 Boxster via renegadehybrids.com...

Yeah, but the problem is CA. Poses a bit of a challenge, but I did get to take a ride in one at the factory in NV last weekend. Holy freakin' cow! Excellent balance of a Boxster, power of a corvette...hope I can pull it off...

CA? Do you mean emissions?
I don't know how it IS in CA, but I understood that as long as the engine/ECU is from a newer vehicle (ie:in your case 2001+), the swap is acceptable. For tail pipe test, just install OEM CATs (C5 uses 4 small CATs) and a milder (not stock) cam. I'm lucky that here in AZ it's just an OBD2 test only. I plan to use EFILive to flash the BMW vin into the GM ECU so the vins match on a scan test. |

great thread. I called a shop about putting an LS into my e90 and he said not enough space between the frame rails. Can you measure how much space you have?

A lot has happened over the past few months, but I have been so busy with work (and working on the car) that I have not been online much. The motor is currently mounted, I'm 80% done with the driver's side 1-7/8 long tube header, and I hope to start on the passenger's side this weekend. The rotating assembly is being balanced (my machinist had back surgery so was out of work for a few months) and the LS7 block is on its way to CA for a resleeve. Unfortunately, tax season is starting so most of my weekends (through April) will be spent at the office rather than in the garage. Shooting for a summer time completion (if everything works out).

I hear you. An L33 with a single turbo would do the trick nicely and be relatively inexpensive. The shop was also terrified of the wiring. I am still searching for a shop to do it for me. What will you do for the electronics? PS. I will post in this thread going forward. Saw you started this after posting in the other one. This thread is pure greatness. |
