M coupe on Carmax

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
USD 30,000.00

Item Interest
There was a 2007 blue M coupe on Carmax two days ago with 10k miles on it for $30k. It said pictures were "coming soon". I checked yesterday, but it was sold already. That was fast! I wonder who bought it?? Someone here? Or maybe it was EAS and they are going to sell it for $49,000 as they seem to do. Dicks! Bummed I missed a well priced coupe.

Have set the CarMax app to alert me whenever there's a Z4M for sale and saw the "coming soon" and then went to check later and it was gone! lol I bet EAS grabbed it.

Assuming they made good money on it (selling it before the add hit so doubt a lot of negotiation) the seller either wasn't very educated or didn't care either.

It was at CarMax. I don't know how they price their cars but I'm sure they do their research. And I've found they're usually on the high side, so i don't know how this got through. The NADA price is at $33k. Carmax does not haggle on price. I've tried. They also offer below bb for trades. So the trade in for this car is $28k. They probably offered 25. So they made a cool $5k on this deal.

What I can't figure out is how something like an extremely low mileage Z4M coupe would even end up at Carmax in the first place?

I think it just comes down to the fact that not everyone is an enthusiast so when some folks decide to make a change in their garage all they see in the for sale add is a used car. I had a similar discussion with a friend looking for an E30 convertible here in SoCal. There are a ton of them available here and the low priced ones are scary but a closer look occasionally reveals a nicely kept car being sold by someone with no knowledge beyond the low blue-book value on their old car.

Edit: To be clear, I'm not commenting on the price of this particular M coupe, just how it may have ended up at CarMax.

There are a bunch of people that either aren't willing to sell their car themselves (fear, don't need the extra money they might get, want quick money, don't want the hassle, etc.), so their option is either trade it in to the dealer they are buying their car from or just selling outright to a car dealer. Then some don't have the money to hold onto one car while they buy another and dealers are a good way to get your money quickly.

Carmax is a big name, the process is simple and I have heard they sometimes give a better price than another trade/buying dealer.

I am just glad to see CarMax is still having some Coupe inventory. I have an alert setup for any local ones that popup and haven't seen anything on a few months near SoCal. When we purchased ours last year there seemed to be a pretty good flow of inventory.

I am kind of thinking of picking up a second one for a fun car for my daily drive and alternate with my current car until it can go no more.

For some reason I really like the idea of 2 Z4 coupes in the garage...
