Then today, this dumb-dumb Maxima decided that my lonely beater Accord needed company on the empty side of the parking lot
Some people just don't have common sense - it's like when a guy walks up and decides to use the urinal right next to you when there are 15 others that are available Last edited by XMetal; 06-21-2016 at 12:38 AM.. |

Try backing in. I know it sounds odd, but the front of the car looks more aggressive, and people tend to allow more room without realizing it.

That's interesting that so many go in at an angle on that one spot. I wonder if you placed something about a foot off the end of the green stripe if it would subliminally cause the drivers to align before entering the parking space -- something like a small block of wood with a sharp angle sticking up or anything that someone wouldn't want to drive over. You could just keep it in your car and place it each day.
I think we've all seen the wacky behavior of the Maxima. I parked on the far side of a parking lot when I first got my Z4MR, and I swear, it was 25 yards from any other car, and when I came out, there was a new Lexus SUV parked next to me. Maybe they think if we care enough to park that far away, their car will be safe next to ours. Salty

Just playing devil's advocate for a moment, could this be your work buddies thinking that they are doing you a favor? Consider. Bob from Accounting sees X's MCoupe and knows you treasure it so he thinks "I'll park next to him, go front in, and as I don't have a passenger, his car is protected all day from somebody else who might ding it".
And Jean from HR says "how much are we paying this guy?" just sayin!

My wife is a terrible parker. All of these pictures could have been her. It drives me insane. But, because of my vast experience riding shotgun with a terrible parker I can provide some insight. They're just not paying any attention and don't care where their car ends up. They don't care if they're parking in the most efficient or well-guarded space, if they've pulled in straight, or if they've squeezed into a spot next to another terrible parker taking up half their space when there's a wide open space two spots down. To them a car is just a car and it may be dinged to their parking lot neighbor's content. I bet all of those terrible parkers in your photos, Ken, also refuse to wash their car no matter how filthy it gets, too.

My policy is to park really far away in an empty area. Walking is healthy. I know it doesn't always work but it is the best option. itdnwi is probably right, and they are on a phone call. Also, don't let it get to you. BTW I would probably not drive that car to work.

I'm NOT doing a gender rant here, just stating my general knowledge of parking. In MOST cases when a car is parked at an angle, with wheels turned, I would venture to guess that 95% of the time it is a woman driver. That's at ANY spot on a parking lot. I have just sat in my car and watched just to see.
As a BMW CCA HPDE Instructor though I can also state that 90% of people that are driving on the road have NO FRICKING CLUE what they are doing.

The sad part is that these pictures are just a few that I took because it was my cars or in the spot that I used to park. There are tons of others similar hacked parking jobs throughout the lot every single day. I thought only beaters/clunkers disregard parking etiquette, but was surprised to see very nice cars that does the same thing. Quote:

Haha. This makes me think of our meet a few months ago. Quite a few Zs clearly parked together with an open space here and there and random people filled in even though the rest of the parking lot was pretty open. Those several people all got out of their car with their heads down in their phone and failed to notice all of us staring at them in disbelief. I'm assuming their heads were similarly positioned when they pulled into the parking lot and parking spaces.

OP - I hear ya. I've learned that most people aren't malicious, just oblivious. People don't realize how poorly they park and frankly don't care. As other posted have mentioned, a car is just a car to them and the thought of a door ding is the very last thing on their minds.
Still makes my blood boil though!!!

Is there a chance that the spot exactly next to you is in a convenient location for the a$$hats to whip around a turn (like from a main aisle of the parking lot) and park there? Most people will whip around to get a spot and not care about being perfectly lined up in a stall. They are too tired or too busy with their smart phones to put the car in reverse and line up, so they are at the mercy of their turning radius and their judgement of the radius they need to hit the spot. It looks like they all came into that spot from the right hand side of your pic, on an arc. My advice would be find a new end spot.
