AFE CAI ordered for Z4M

Purchased my AFE CAI today...excited to get it installed and listen to that inline 6 howl like it was meant to.

Nice, how much did u pay for it?

I was going to get the Gruppe M but decided i'd rather get power than possibly lose power so i just did RPi's intake kit

but i'm sure the sound will be amazing!

We just installed one a few days ago, not a bad piece of kit.

Let us know how you like it.

I have the AFE intake in my car, and I can assure you that you won't be disappointed with the growl. But with a full exhaust system in my car, I can't hear much from the intake anymore. But rest assured, it was a good purchase.

We installed it along with RPI's exhaust, so we couldn't really hear the impact of the intake itself. But the customer was quite happy with the results, we were impressed by the overall build quality and design of the kit.

For the Z4M, I recall that aftermarket intakes actually lost a bit of power with stock ECU, so most people are getting them purely for the sound. Honestly it doesn't sound THAT much better. A CSL-style intake manifold swap would sound a lot better, but you'd be paying big money for that kinda conversion.

If you have a tuned ECU though and perhaps some other mods to complement an aftermarket intake then you should see gains

I'm assuming you're speaking from personal experience then? It DOES sound THAT much better. Have you even heard one in person?
Give the loss of power on these a rest already too. If the OP really wants to find out about these intakes, then I'm sure he'll do a search of these forums and be richly rewarded. In the meantime, quit spewing BS about intakes losing power w/o some kind of proof either way. He's going to be thrilled with his purchase. As an actual owner of one, like many others, I can say that

Dang dude, do I sense hostility? Sorry if I hit a nerve, but after doing my research on the forums before, I concluded that aftermarket intake systems did not do any better than stock. People with before-and-after dynoes said not to waste time on them, so I just went with a drop-in filter.
My 325Ci did not benefit from a GruppeM intake back in the day. It just heat-soaked like no other. It sounded better, but not THAT much better. Definitely not worth the cost imo

I really don't appreciate the tone of voice...Can't we all get along? You're a TiAg MC owner too. Chill out bud! Why so serious?
I was merely helpin' him out with my opinion on the matter from my own modding experience. You said it yourself: he can do his own research and decide for himself in the end.
I don't see the harm in me voicing my opinion...? Isn't that the whole point of a forum? To discuss these things? lol
It's not like I straight up came out and claimed "everyone who spent money on aftermarket intake stuff is an idiot" right? Did I? No...-_-

Lon, you don't need to be jealous. I know when I start parting out my car you'll buy most of my stuff, RIGHT?!?!?! So you better snatch the AFE intake from me and the BBK.

No, you were quoting from your own online searching, not from actual Z4MC AFE Intake experience. The facts are that these intakes may or may not have any potential HP benefit.

But seeing as how the OP just purchased his... how about letting him enjoy his investment, rather than telling him he's going to LOSE power and rain on his picnic? Thats my point. No need to keep ur feathers ruffled.

OP... go enjoy it. It sounds great and your car will have even better throttle response.

What? No. My post was for jair_onsa, not the OP. Never meant to rain on the OP's purchase.

Thanks all for your input. I realize this mod isn't much of a power gain, and I knew that going into it. It's definitely a "sound" mod and the way I look at it, is if it provides a little hp up top and a little better throttle response then that's just the cream on the top.

AFE claims 10 hp/11 tq...and I realize that's probably a little exagerated. But, I don't think it's going to lose hp unless you are running the car really hard for an extended amount of time....or possibly on a hot summer day. This car doesn't get driven super hard anyways (we don't track it). Where I live (colder climate), I don't think I'm going to be dealing with those heat-soak issues (as much) as folks in warmer climates. So, I'll gain some sound (my main reason for the mod) and probably gain a few ponies in the higher revs. Perfect!

Yeah I honestly don't know why he barked at me like that
Whatever happened to freedom of speech? lol
And it's not like I was bashing Fen for his purchase or anything. Sheesh.

^ MFanatic - your initial post did come off a little negative. You did rain on my parade a little bit, but that's ok. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'm not losing sleep over it. ;-)

haha sorry, wasn't meant to be that way. My fault. I did put a smiley face after though, and I mentioned that with a tune and other supporting mods, one can counter the base 50/50 issue in regards to power gains. So I still feel like it was extremely neutral, my original post
