Getting an //M?
I tuned my Z4 3.0i recently. I have been enjoying it greatly.
But, I am going to be in the US for only a year longer and recently found a Z4M that I like. So I thought might as well taste true power before I go back home. The car has high miles ... I think I can talk him down by about $2000 ... http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...e&rdpage=thumb Any things I should look out for? Is this a good car?

Dang, that's the most miles I've seen on an ///M yet! Seeing as some with like 40k miles have gone for 23k or so recently, I'd just pop a few more grand and get one with half the miles.

I believe someone else posted this same car a few weeks back here on the forum. That's a lot of miles but at the same time it's nice to see one with that many and know it's still running strong.
But I agree with NickyC. Unless you can get this car for a steal (several thousand less than his asking price) I'd say save your money and find something with lesser miles. Although on the other hand, just because it has lower miles doesn't mean it didn't have the shit beat out of it either... |

personally, i think the deal is pretty sweet even despite the high mileage (highest i've seen on a z4m). it is one owner, and he prescribes having all records since day one, which are big plus points. it's also never seen snow, always been garaged, been used only in one state and is a rare color and trim. would've been perfect with madeira wood, but the carbon leather has gorgeous contrast against the light sepang.
unfortunately, u might find some difficulty reselling the vehicle after a year due to its exceptionally high mileage. the resale of these cars depends a lot on their mileage. |

I talked to the guy, started this thread on the subject.
On the one hand it's a lot of miles (relatively, Zs tend to have lower miles than the average car). On the other it's a daily driver, doing highway miles, so if he hasn't run into any issues it means it's running strong. |

Have yet to do it myself still as i hear no rattle noises or anything of the like, SHITBROWN M COUPE has good experience in this field, although i cant imagine it costing too much to just have a mechanic check the bolts for play

That same pitch is being used in car scams here in LA. Your money is gone and you are stuck with a dubious car. I'm not claiming that particular guy is a scammer, but I would strongly advise NOT buying a used sportcar sight unseen....go see it. Consider the roundtrip airfare costs just a small investment in a 20+K car. Or have somebody get it to an independent shop for evaluation. Have a dealer pull the service records and carfax etc. Do the homework so you can spot a scam or buy with confidence. Last edited by blender; 03-28-2011 at 08:55 PM.. |

If everything save mileage checks out (seller, PPI, service history, etc), I would not let the mileage dissuade you. This engine will last, especially if its only had easy highway miles so far!

A 2006 E46 M3s with comparable mileage to a 2006 Z4 M is probably going for as much or even more, and the latter is a MUCH more desirable car IMO.
