RPI Scoop - 2 styles?
So today I installed RPI's scoop.
It looked like the one in this pic: However, the one in the Tech section of RPI's website looks like this: What's up?? A newer version? This only fit ONE way, but I nearly had to be quintuple-jointed, only having a regular phillips screwdriver for the top left screw. A VERY long one is highly recommended next time. Thought I got to the end and had the wrong part when I checked RPI's website. Comment? |

You got the V2 of the scoop, it has more surface area as you can obviously see.
RPI does this occasionally with their products, but they never really bother to announce the version changes. |

It's easy to do once you figure out that it just takes force. Buy 2nd hand and it's worth it. $130 isn't IMO. Better response when cruising in 6th gear, less downshifting. |

Here's some pics of the install. I don't know why a round intake scoop hasn't been developed (aside from Dinan's which i'm not sure is even available anymore for our cars - plus it's $$$). I've always thought air travels better thru fluid lines than SQUARE. But whatever. That top left screw is not going in for now. The thing is held in place really tight as it is.
That is, unless someone can point out anything glaringly wrong. Haven't had the car out today, but will see if it actually makes a difference. Cheers |

I bought mine for cheap off a local guy who never used his. I would not pay $99 for this, no.
Also, seems the top-left screw comes within mm of the large empty hole left from the plug of the stock scoop. So there'll be no mounting of a screw in that position for me, because it just slips out. The Dinan scoop looked like a much more functional unit. I'm wondering why it wasn't a bigger hit? Here's a link to a guy here who installed one: http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=123811 Last edited by johanness; 03-25-2011 at 01:11 PM.. |

FWIW, I had one of the originals on my M Roady.
IMO it's strictly a placebo mod.
