Sound is one thing - only you can decide if it's to your liking since there's no great way to record an exhaust for others to hear.

Tip alignment, whole other story. Definitely off and could be so much better. I suppose "wak" is a way to put it. Aim for something like this:

Just as a quick tip, because of the way the cans are hung, if they loosen the clamps to the x-pipe and basically pull down on the front side of the muffler the backside and tips will move upward. It's a starting point. Also, I have held the tips up, using a bungie or something like that since it was just me doing the work, and tighten the clamp with them held up, slightly higher than where you want them to end up. After the clamps are good and tight, they will always drop a little. good luck

I think they're noisier inside the coupe---the noise isn't particularly pleasing inside either. However, I've let my friend drive my car under WOT conditions doing flybys next to where I was standing, and the thing sounds pretty good from the outside. It doesn't sound cheap, and isn't as loud as some of the ricer systems I've seen on econoboxes and such.

Well, I got the pipes worked on again and they look like the picture above now, so a nice improvement there. Sound has become more tolerable as was mentioned in this thread, and the drone is no longer rattling my teeth.

I guess I'll wind up keeping it simply because of the bath I'd take otherwise selling it, but if I had to do it over again, I'd just keep it stock.

Thanks for all the help from everyone.

Not when it comes to the green stuff.

Just got a UPS notification as well, my AC Schnitzer CF diffuser has landed in the good old USA and will be delivered to my house on Thursday this week. I'll be posting pics when it arrives, with a detailed writeup etc. There is very little info on this piece on the web it seems, and it's interested me since I bought my car.

Now that you've had another week for the sound to settle-in, has your opinion changed?

Hey onebluemcm how do you like that ARQRAY exhaust? Do you like it? I was considering getting one for my M Coupe. Do you have any pics or sound clips you can post?

Hey esqu1re do you think you can take a pic of your wheels? I was considering putting RE30's on my car and wanted to see how they look like before I order them.

It has certainly toned down quite a bit, and driving with the top down is pretty much OK now. Still a ton of drone at 2000RPMs with the top up, but whatever. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't buy it, and instead would just weld some nice tips on the stock mufflers. These things are way overpriced for what you get. Here's a pic of my car now, with the AC Schnitzer CF diffuser, exhaust pipes fitted correctly, and lowered.

Definitely Don't mean any disrespect.

But, You are the first person I have ever heard say that BMW sixes don't sound good. I can't think of a highly tuned inline six that doesn't sound good. I.E. Jag d type, XK120, Austin Healey mk III. What type of engine config. Do you prefer in the sound department? Please for gods sake don't say a civic wearing a fart can.

I'm sure lots of folk would gladly trade their Z4 2.0 for your M

Again, No disrespect. Just curious.

He's American, they're used to V8+ grunt, not "tuned" 4 cylinders like we are here.

That diffuser is certainly... unique, Nick!

The diffuser changes the rear so much. Its such a simple design, but damn it looks amazing once its installed.

Correct. It's hard to make a big V-8 sound bad, although I'm sure examples are out there. I grew up in the South where every performance car has a thundering V-8. AMG big-displacement Mercs? Pshhhh... nothing on these cars.
