Read This! If you bought a used Z4.
BUMP - Because there have been several recent new Z4 owners join the forum -
Reset your Adaptive Throttle Response! If you bought a used Z4 the throttle is adapted to the previous owners driving style and if it was a grandma, or just some slow poke-ass driver that thought it was better to look good than to drive fast you will notice a difference. Turn ignition off Turn key to "on" position Wait 15 seconds Turn ignition off Wait another 15 seconds Start the car What this does is reset the adaptive throttle response to factory settings, basicaly erasing from memory the previous owner and starting anew. If the previous owner drove just like you, you may not feel a difference, But what the heck, its yours now. Out with the old I always say.

I would think this would only be for the automatic transmission, no? I tried a trick similar to this on my e60 and supposedly it changed the shift points, but that's debatable at best.

sounds right, in terms of only being for autos... this is pretty common in alot of other cars, including my old vw and my current infiniti. there are always going to be different ways to reset this but usually disconnecting the battery achieves the same result.

The adaptive settings are not just for auto cars. It's not just about shift points.

Drove the car this morning and the throttle does seem more responsive and the shift points are trying to find themselves. One minute fix that seems to work.

As far as I can find it may adapt slowly over a couple thousand miles, You probably adapted to it by now. But give it a try, what the hell, 30 seconds to a clean new throttle response.

It did on my car. I thought it was just me needing to used to the shifter, turned out it was the car that needed to get used to me.

I've known it as - on, press accelerator down fully, hold for 5 secs; release, turn back to off, then start.

Crazy... my car shifts so smooth now. I just did this before I took it to lunch... speechless.
Oh, and at the gas station had a guy in an STi ask me all sorts of questions, but that's for another thread.
