Thanks inTgr8r for the install today on the SS brake lines and encouraging me to keep swapping out OE parts

My problem is the 3-2 downshift under hard braking - hope this solves it - will swap the fluid at the same time - any reco's on fluid beyond the OE Castrol?
no problem.

I love the Royal Purple Synchromax that Rocco put in for me.

About 1 - 1 1/2 hour. I took my time and it was insanely hot in my Texas garage at 5pm. Yup I need an AC unit for the garage.

Caddy,

I put in Royal Purple SyncroMax on Saturday and have put on about a 100 miles with it in.

The shifting is MUCH better. I never had the grind issue but sometimes I would miss a up shift. Now that issue is gone.

I really do like this SyncroMax fluid.

I did a couple more mods this weekend also but that will be in another thread.

Well, crap. Got my car on the ramps and took off the heat shield only to realize that there was no way I could access the bolts on the passenger side with my current tools. I'm guessing you used an offset box wrench or an angle-head?

How did you tighten the nuts on top? Looks like you just put your hand up there but since they're locking nuts, I have no idea how you were able to torque them down.

I used my oem nuts. I hand tightened the top with my hands and just torqued down the bottom nuts. The top should be torqued as the bottom nuts squeeze the bushings upwards. Maybe I did it wrong, but I've had them for a couple hundred miles---no problems so far.

I used a small 1/4 drive socket wrench to tighten. I was not able to get a torque wrench up there.

Got a 13mm flex-head ratcheting combination wrench and 45° offset box wrench in the same size and got to work. The flex-head wrench made it a LOT easier -- I was able to reach the top nuts without too much trouble.

Took a shower afterwards and drove around for a few miles. The new mounts makes the shifter feel much sturdier and the car as a whole felt stronger. There is less hesitation as you're switching gears over uneven terrain. As others have said, it also changes the tone of the engine appreciably. It's louder, almost bassier, and there is noticeably more NVH, especially at higher RPMs, but not in an unpleasant way. The revs going up and down now have a distinctly tactile element that wasn't present before. I only have the black neoprene ones without the enforcer cups (option 1).

Compared to the improvements in drivability effected by the Zeckhausen CDV and the ZHP shifter, I'd say the UUC mounts are somewhere in the middle. The three combined make the transmission highly tolerable, if not pretty close to perfect.

I'm wondering if the more-than-expected NVH might be due to my over-torquing some of the fasteners. I was only able to access the two bolts that connect the brace to the body and the bottom brace-to-mount nut on the driver's side with a torque wrench. TIS says 21 Nm for the former and 19 Nm for the latter. I did the two nuts above the transmission mounts and the bottom nut/bolts on the passenger side by feel.

Would the additional rigidity of the setup have any potentially long-term adverse effect on the engine or drivetrain? Only thing I'm concerned about at this point is whether it might exacerbate the engine mount issue, as there is now less isolation between the components.

Mine went in 4 hours ago. Appears to be less cabin noise then with the OE's. Won't know the performance until Friday.

That's because the RE's are filled with silly puddy.

Just finished up mine, went with the red set, no enforcer cups.

Made the mistake of torquing down to 20lb-ft and not 16 (torque wrench only went to 20 and figured it wouldn't be that big a difference). Wow, what a racket that made! Put it back up on the jack stands, torqued it to 16 (with new torque wrench, yeah!) and purrs like a tiger now at high RPMs.

I used a 1/4" ratchet and two fingers to tighten the top nuts, save yourself the hassle and pick up a flex-head ratchet. The space is very tight.

Thanks again for the write-up!

Now for the dumb question:

My Zed is a daily driver and I saw 10 track days this year. Does 10 track days constitute heavy track use?

I am on fence between the option 1 (blacks, with or without cups) or option 2's (reds).

Thoughts from people who have them installed?????

I am on travel now and won't be home until Feb 5th, so if I order soon, they should be waiting for me...

Too damn much snow up here in CT..
