awesome alternator replacement video
so i'm planning on pulling my alternator tomorrow to replace the voltage regulator, and i found this great hd video showing how to get it out:
covers removal of other stuff in the area, belt routing, etc. wanted to share in case anyone else is working on the same thing. |

pulled and rebuilt my alternator this morning following this video, took about 2 hours at a relaxed pace. a couple differences from the video (which was made for an M54):
- no cooling duct at the bottom - no need to disconnect the radiator hose - no need to disconnect the oil hard lines went much easier than i expected. the hardest part was getting the dust cover off the alternator to get access to the voltage regulator. there are jam nuts built in to the dust cover; to pull it off, you have to use a pick to round out the jam nuts. the voltage regulator includes replacement (regular) nuts in the box, so I think rounding out the jam nuts is what they expect you to do. |
