Thanks for DIY - I did this for my Wifes Coupes last weekend worked perfectly. I did have a question in regards the to OP's comment in the DIY - "You won't be able to reuse the 7 8mm screw/bolts along the underside. But the bumper is actually held quite securely by the top hex screws and fenderwell expanding tabs, so the underside hardware won't be necessary." I have been searching REALoem and i cant seem to find the part that fixes the Gap underneath. Has anyone found this part number?

Glad to hear the DIY worked out for you It's possible that the underbody pan may be a different part number for the ///M vs standard Z4, to compensate for the difference in bumper height. I don't think it's a separate piece. I opted to leave the gap though, since you can't hardly see it anyway.

Is there any fault massage coming up when removing the fog lights?

Not that I have all the time the yellow light sign in the BC.

Any one knows?

Up for this thread

How about a conversion to the 2006 facelift? Which parts are needed?

Awesome tutorial! I just bought a bumper on eBay and will buy the rest of the parts soon. Is it better to paint the bumper while it is on the car or after installation? Seems I've seen it done both ways.

I'm going to have the bumper painted soon. Anything I should look for when getting it painted? What brand should I use? Do I request the same type of paint used by BMW?

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing this conversion! After seeing this thread, I knew I'd eventually have to do the same thing to my car. Anyway, almost 3 years from the time I purchased my car, I finally did it. I couldn't be happier.

I'd like to add one more part that people may need to purchase.

Does it look as good in person as it does in the pics? For some reason i feel like it would look weird compared to the rear of my coupe.

Whenever I walk away from my car, I always look back and think, "damn, that's a nice looking car. I'm really lucky." Now, I do it twice. :-)

My Life with a Z4M Bumper !

Well I did it!
Installed the Z4M Bumper today.
Removal of the Facelift went without much drama.
The push rivets in the wheel wells on my 08 3.0si appear to have been improved and could not be reused.
A trip to Home Depot (Auto Fastener trays) located the older version at a cost of less than a Canadian Buck

Inspection of the undertrays exposed some slight damage to 3 fittings.
I cut some material from my donner bumper and used epoxy (JB Weld) to repair and reinforce these areas.

Installing the M Bumper went as described by many.
The previously mentioned short coming of the Facelift undertray is being solved via a piece from the donnar bumper as well.
I made a template that will fill the gap with a transition piece ..I'll add that here later later.

Here it is !

Note the colour matched brake cooling ducts. As mentioned previously I went with this to maximize the visual depth of the duct. While the colour is matched, I didn't clear coat the duct, preferring a flat white.
The Kidney Grills are flat black with the trim ring glossy black.

You can see the glossy trim on the kidney grill in this pic.

Fog Lights in the brake duct.
The wiring was already there on the facelift bumper.
I went with a round LED Fog / Driving (?) Light mounted deep in the brake cooling duct.
The original bulb was a halogen and I couldn't locate a female receptacle so I took out my solderless connectors and modified a simple blade connector (cut it's width via tin snips so it fit)
Checked the polarity and taped everything snug. Worked like a charm.

I went with the stock lic. plate holder. Seeing as the local paper did a story on the constabulary taking offense to obstructed and modified plates. Actually I preferred the stock bracked turned upside down and mounted about an inch lower than stock.

So there yah have it !

Beautiful job! Painting the brake ducts looks real nice. How bright are your foglights? Do they light up the road as well as the older set?

This is the first time I've seen a Z4M bumper conversion that had a working foglight feature - great work! I am intrigued!!!

I had lots to consider when I went the Z4M bumper conversion.
Fill or not to fill the reflector, water jet and even the tow hook ports ?
I also considered upgrading the plastic lower grill with a metal mesh.

And then there was the loss of the fog lights that many complained about.
I don't understand why this was a concern.
The wiring and switch are already in place.
The bulbs have no impact on any computer idiot light.
The stock bulbs are halogen, and the stock lens' are prone to corrosion.
Leds are the way to go in my opinion and they are superior in so many ways.
There are a couple of obvious locations.
If you require a lot of light I think the solid part of the lower grill would probably be a better choice.
The brake cooling duct is the 2nd location. You could easily mount a linear Led at the entrance. I even thought about an angel eye, before I thought Id play it safe with a round led.
There are many Led versions available now and new / powerful products coming to market every day.

Mine is still a work in progress. I actually haven't taken it for a night ride yet to verify how much light these lights produce. If Im not happy, an upgrade is simple.

The LED Fogs do not match the H3 halogens stock lights.
Not by a log shot.
Not that I actually need auxiliary lighting with the HID Headlights.
I did appreciate the side illumination that the fogs provided.

Lots of new product coming every day though, so I will keep my eyes peeled for a better solution.
Right now I'm just enjoying the ride and looking out for speed bumps and pot holes.

It's not the links expired rather Photobucket started charging fees for hosting and if you didn't pay (which is the case for most), the pics no longer show.
