Haha, maybe you should specify what you are talking about. Screw drivers right? hehe. jk.

Anyhow, I found that a LONG screw driver helps. Some people found that a small stubby would work better. Either way, its not the length. Its how you want to use it.

If any of you have issues or problems installing it, dont hesitate to call me. I would be more than happy to walk you through it or give you pointers.

I want to thank those of you who support us by word of mouth or by sporting our decals. Its customer like you who have made us successful over the years.

BTW, any of you guys going to the wheelpower meet this Sunday?

I have a S54 Z3 M Coupe (UK spec) and I've done a lot of experimentation with the air intake and exhaust system on the car over the past 3 years.

It is refreshing to see that you guys on here all seem to accept that the MC can benefit from ram effect, even at relatively low speeds. I've found that a lot of people think you're crazy talking about this below 150mph.

The RPI scoop is basically copying part of the OEM air intake on the Z3 MC which seems to be missing on the OEM Z4 MC.

My Z3 MC achieves the highest torque and bhp figures for any S54 Z3 MC and Z4 MC in the UK that has been on "Evolve's" Dyno Dynamics rolling road. Evolve has done more testing of Z3 and Z4 MCs than anyone else in the UK, so I know that they are aware of the idiosyncracies of dynoing these cars. My car has only benefitted from my air-intake mods and exhaust mods. No engine work has been performed.

My MC has also been dynoed on another rolling road and also with my own DashDyno SPD (see: http://www.auterraweb.com ) and it produces even better figures when the air speed can be increased above the 70mph that RPI has obtained with its fan. The torque graph with a more powerful fan with a RR, or when doing real-world on-the-road testing produces a totally different shape. My car achieves peak torque at 6100rpm (in 3rd gear) with little tailing off right up to the redline. All of your Z4 MCs will be doing similar in the real-world (i.e. not on a dyno)

I would therefore suggest that any gain shown on a DynoDynamics RR will be better on the road. The pressure of air within my air intake system is ALWAYS above ambient at cruising speeds above 30mph and even at WOT (Wide Open Throttle) at all speeds above 80mph. I've tested this with a Magnehelic pressure gauge and my DashDyno SPD (connected to the cars ECU giving and recording live data on the fly) confirms the figures.

The reason why my Z3 achieves the high figures is because I have also modified the OEM silencers as well as my air-intake system, so that the flow of air through the entire system is as free-flowing as possible. I've insulated the air-filter box and the temperature of the air entering the system is never more than 7 degrees C above ambient when the car is moving, which also ensures the densest air charge.

Some info about it here:
http://www.z3mcoupe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5442
http://www.z3mcoupe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5733

It's good to see that you're also finding gains!

Thumbs up Stubby 1" Phillips

I simply drilled another hole about half way between the two existing holes on the scoop. I could then easily get a stubby 1 inch Phillips screw driver on both screw heads. It also helps to punch a starter hole in the plastic prior to attempting to use the furnished self-drilling 5/32"X3/4" sheet metal screws. I used the 5/32"X3/4" self-drilling black screw in the bottom hole and a hex head (8mm) 3/16"X 1/2" self-tapping sheet metal screw in the new middle hole.
These two screws firmly affixed the scoop to the plastic panel so I elected not to install the tab screw as access is very awkward.
Suggestion: drill a third hole half way between the two current holes and use self-tapping sheet metal screws rather than the self-drilling type.

Okay. I had the SE CAI & Dinan front air-duct, which is similar to the RPI scoop, on my M54 Z4 3.0i before. The Dinan air-duct was a good product and I was definitely able to feel the small performance gain, so I have no doubt that the RPI scoop would work well for my Z4M also.

I "almost" just ordered the RPI scoop and air filter a few times already. But I can't help but think I'm rarely getting to use up all the 330HP I already have, do I really need another 8~10HP?

So I guess what I'm saying is, can anyone here convince me that I should get these parts?

Is there any improvement in MPG so I can at least justify myself buying the scoop + filter?

No point in anyone convincing you, if you've filled the shopping cart and emptied it you probably already made up your mind. You can read the thread, you can see the reviews, but in the end you have to click checkout. Us convincing you to buy it would be similar to someone forcing you to buy it (not exactly I know)

In conclusion, BUY IT ALREADY!

MPG gain, I think, 0.5 maybe? Who knows the stronger highway pulls is all I need.

Btw guys Eloy and I are discussing about software and exhaust (yes RPI is just starting with our cars) as we both agree that if there is no gain then it's not worth doing it (that's why i want RPI to spear head the development of the exhaust and Software)...I would like to get some of your feedback here or I can open up an new thread for this...

Maybe if you can save on shipping costs by ordering more than one?

I mean honestly im not looking for gains out of an exhaust system. But if they can build a resonably priced one ill be first in line.

As for software....if us Z4Ms could get something like D/A tuning has for the E46 M3s that would be awesome. There software is customized based on your cars mods (exhaust, headers, pulleys) I would love to get my hands on Agency power headers but the CEL is what is stopping me. If RPIs software could get rid of CEL from headers and make the car a little more responasive then ill be all over this one.

EvoTech software can be changed for mods. I have had my file sent to them to be altered after exhaust mods. ESS is doing some cool things with there software like custom settings for sport mode. The problem with the Z4M is it uses the same DME that the new E92 cars run so cracking it and altering it is not as easy as modifying the a E46 ECU file. Lots of tuners when you talk to them still think its just a E46 DME and that it will just take a little tweaking to adapt it to our car. It took ESS over a year to figure it out so you most likely wont see lots of ECU options for our car soon.

If RPI does do software that would be a nice little package they would have.

Here is the video as promised, for those who are worried on water getting inside the air box, as you can see on the video on how much water and pressure i applied to flood the air box directly but still drained thru the oem hole on our air box...

water test inside the airbox

Btw guys I was at RPI yesterday... ELoy and I discussed about the future of the Z4 M coupe with RPI and he was kinda disappointed with people trying to copy the scoops (which i would be aswell)...Eloy takes alot of pride with his work and is careful on bringing out products as some of you who have been at his shop can attest...he dyno'd and tested alot of air scoops just to get one single scoop that will give us the max gains and for some people to copy it is just plain sad...I am saying this as I was the first guy to approach Eloy to make something for the Z4M when no one had one or even if they had one didn't produce any hp to boot , i went ahead and gave my car and time to do the r and d just for everybody to have something effective and test proven product ...the scoops and skid plates imho are affordable enough to buy and guaranteed hp (the RPI scoops i mean)...I ask that we support companies that support us in one way or the other and also to buy the original RPI scoops...trust me RPI will be coming out with great products for us...

note: that i am in no way affiliated with RPI or Eloy, I am simply an enthusiast like you guys who wants a cost effective mod and is always in search of something new...

well honestly, its going to happen with anything... there are plenty of comparable products out there... unless you patent protect and even then, you cant go crying about others who will follow and create competition... just sayin'

Point taken but my post was not to cry about people copying BUT to get people to realize that ...how can a company be motivated to produce a product like RPI ( which in our case no one really take notice as there is not enough market for it ) if we do not support it...
