Mods you regret...
Any mods you regret?
I have two: 1. Carbon fiber emblems - not worth the cost or hassle... the front bumper Roundel is almost impossible to find, and they yellow over time. 2. Aftermarket M badges - stickers peel, slight paint damage on removal of the M badges, cheapens the car.

RE Diablo exhaust on my first Z4M. Horrible, horrible mod.
You shouldn't get any paint damage from badge removal if you use dental floss right? |

Good topic, I don't think I've done anything that I completely regret, but one of the ones that I feel worst about is the APR lip install and cutting of my bellypan. Over time it has slightly warped the underside of the bumper, although it's not visible unless you go underneath the car.

Yes, it shouldn't, but there's a risk of damage if you don't know what you're doing and new to modding. I was a new DIY'er at the time and used some soft plastic tools that "shouldn't" have damaged the paint. As I started to get under the M emblem and raise one side up, the opposite corner of the emblem dug into the paint.

Eibach pro kit lowering springs.
Too low for the speedbump rich country I live in. I went back to stock springs and then got a kw V3. (that's about as low but much stiffer on initial bounce (linear springs) so less nosediving when coming on or off speedbumps. Less comfort too sadly)

Seconded. They spent less than two hundred miles on my car and they were only on there that long because I decided I couldn't stand them halfway through a 140 mile trip. Drone City!

My H&R's we a little too low for me in the rear as well, but I added the 15mm spring pad in and now I think it is just about right. Does not bottom out, but I still get the better spring rate and they work great with the Bilsteins!

Good topic
Supersprint Race exhaust. Too loud (for me) and lots of vibrations added to cabin. Could not stand it and took it off after a couple of days of driving. |

I guess maybe my tekarbon engine cover. The holes were pretty badly off causing me to lose a nut. Also the direction of the weave wasn't was I was looking for, but thats kinda petty.

On my RSX - modded it to hell and put it back to (mostly) stock and it's still my dd with 210k miles and counting:
1. Type R gauge cluster swap. My odometer will never be accurate again as a result of this mod. Stock cluster is back on. 2. Black interior swap. I don't REALLY regret this, because it looks way better with black interior, but my SRS light will never turn off on account of the wrong OPDS unit in the car (I didn't know at the time to swap the OPDS unit from my own seats). I bought the M coupe fairly modified, and have since added an APR front splitter and RE Xpipe. No regrets there Though it did hurt to drill my bumper. |

Nothing on the Z4M yet, but I totally regretted installing fat swaybars in my e30. The aftermarket rear bar just fit like complete ass and all 4 of the heim joint end links seized and failed (front and rear). That was despite trying to lubricate every few weeks. They might work for a garage kept car that only sees sunny days but they suck for daily usage.
Added on top of that, but with the S52 in the car it made the back end way more prone to snapping out sideways on the track and autocross due to being far too stiff. I've returned to stock in the rear, and oem end links all around for a big improvement in driveability.

Agreed, I really enjoy the stromung on the z4m. It totally changes the note of the car, it's got a... difficult sound to explain, but it's not too loud and has that interesting howl at high rpms. I can't help but wonder what it's like with euro headers up front though...
