I think it fits that bill with a couple of exceptions. You may find the shifting characteristics aren't as smooth as the S2K. The transmission is notchy and 1st to 2nd is especially so. However, there are some remedies. A weighted shift knob, new fluids, and replacing the engine mounts greatly improved how my transmission feels. It's like a different car. Still not as smooth as an S2K, though. It's also going to feel much heavier than an S2K, but I love the M roadster. It's the most enjoyable car I've owned to date.

Good luck with your decision.

Looks good. Is that a carbon fiber wrap on the bumper?

CF Wrap indeed!

Tried to install LED license plate lights from eBay but the connector doesn't match up after taking off the oem lights. Anyone else run into this issue before?

Did you do a forum search on "LED license plate lights"?
There are some pretty good threads on the subject with pics and sources.
I've had these for about 4 years and love them.
Be warned, they're very bright and illuminate a large portion of the ground behind the car.

Hello!

Hi!

Currently living vicariously through my friends 2008 Z4 M Coupe (which will be posted for sale here soon). It's too rich for my blood, but I've coveted it for some time. Looks like a friendly car forum. Cheers!

New guy

Hi, newbie to BMW and this forum. Been looking and lurking and hoping to buy a Z4MC. Had a Triumph TR6, Ferrari 308, and a Lotus Exige.....seems like the next logical car....

Mid December I bought a used 2007 3.0i automatic, powered top, jet black Z4 with 65k miles in very good condition, to replace my wife's 2005 MX-5 Miata. She has a shoulder injury which makes it very hard to raise and lower the top, also we took a 2 week trip in her car in October and it just about killed us. Miatas are great car and a blast to drive, but they are not good touring cars for long distance, very uncomfortable and noisy on long trips. So, we are in the process of selling her car and we now have the Z4 and my 2001 Miata SE 6-speed British Racing Green with Nardi wood interior. So I can still have fun modding and driving mine and she is happy, and we can now take scenic trips in style while still enjoying going topless and having fun on the roads!

The first thing I did, was to have it checked out, oil change, new wipers, etc.
The front windshield had a big ding and road rash and the welting was almost completely gone. I'm sort of amazed at the bad quality of the Z4 rubber molding and plastics. So, I had them replace and was able to salvage the wiper cowling by cutting the cracking edging off and then sanding it down and re coating with preservatives.

Here's a couple of photos:

Last week I added a WindRestrictor. I'm still evaluating its effectiveness, but I like the look of it and the price was right, especially with the Christmas -15% sale they had going and the satisfaction guarantee. Also, moved the wife's personal plate over to the Z4

Apparently "Jet Black" is not well known, I think it looks great

I have a Jet Black 2006 3.0i automatic. Black is hard to keep clean as it shows everything, but it is beautiful, and is certainly one of the best looking when clean and shiny.

Congrats on the car.

While we are on the subject though, I am considering selling the coupe and getting an M roadster to enjoy the roads in SoCal a little more, haven't convinced myself to do it yet, maybe you all will push me over the edge.
How's the new car?? What...you have not got out and done it..

No seriously...you should jsut go test drive a few. Then come back here and post your new ride.

Hi all! Just joined the forum and wanted to say hi. I drive an 03 Z4 2.5i. There's nothing much done to it yet, just reliability mods like the classic cooling system overhaul and bushings. Hopefully I can learn and contribute from and to everyone on this forum!

Hey all,

Wanted to pop-in and say hello. I picked up an '06 MR last fall (pic attached) with low miles in mint condition and use it as my daily driver when the roads are clear. I'm truly blessed with a very short commute that includes some back roads, so I've only put on about 1700 miles in the past 6-mos.

I'm still able to take it out for a longer spirited drive every other weekend where I can really wind out the S54 engine like it begs to be driven. It's a near-magical experience when you're ripping off perfectly executed heel-toe downshifts on an empty and twisty back road

My Car Progression
I've owned 9 cars in the past 9 years and this is, by far, my favorite. S2k would be a close 2nd and both happen to be roadsters

Other cars I've owned include:
  1. Z4 3.0si
  2. VW MK5 R32
  3. BMW 135i
  4. Honda Civic Si (taught myself how to drive a manual)
  5. Honda S2000 (mastered the heel-toe downshift)
  6. Ford Focus ST
  7. Volvo S60 T6 R-Design / Polestar
  8. VW GLI (APR Tuned)
  9. Z4M Roadster - Current

While I don't plan on selling the car unless I move overseas, this past winter has been pretty bad and there have been many occasions where I seriously considered selling it for a more "practical" fun car like an E90 M3 6MT sedan so it can serve some family duties. But who am I kidding...the M3 wouldn't do much better in inclement weather w/o snow tires.

Also, I can't think of any new-ish sports car in the past 5 years under $50k that has the kind of analog, mechanical, raw feel the MR and earlier M cars offer. Maybe the Cayman S, but I'd argue it's almost too refined. There's also the Elise, but it's definitely not suited for DD duties. That's what's always kept me loyal to the "M" brand, though sadly, we may not see it again thanks to "technological progress" and CAFE fuel economy standards.
