WTT '07 Z4MC headlamps (silver housing)+$200 for '06+ xenon headlamps (black housing)
Wishful thinking.... Looking for someone (preferably local, Orange/LA county) who would be interested in trading my '07 Z4MC headlamps (silver housing) plus + $200 for your '06+ xenon headlights (black housing). My headlights have 32k miles on them and are in perfect condition. Hoping to trade for a similar conditioned set. Maybe someone in the process of selling their car and wouldn't mind making some extra $$$ before the sale. Thanks for considering. Last edited by usaz4mcr8cr; 05-25-2012 at 10:54 AM.. |

This will probably be my last resort. I would much rather prefer an OEM set-up. Angel Eyes would be a plus, but i can't wrap my head around baking a set of headlamps and spraying paint on a $2,000 option. How long would these LED angel eyes last for, realistically?
Your headlights look great though.... angel eyes, black housing, and is that medium or dark tint for the reflectors? |

I drive my Z4 MAYBE 4 hours a week avg in the summer and store it during the winter. So lets do some math. If I drive 7 months out of the year and avg 4 hours per week, I'll will drive the Z for aprox 112 hours per year(which IMHO is high). That should give me 44.64 years(2056 AD) of fun spirited driving before I have an LED failure or 89.28 years(2101 AD) if I really did get a life of 10,000 hours. Of course a DD would be different. Two hours a day would be 730 hours a year based on driving it 365 days a year. So at 5000 hours you could expect 6.84 years(2019) of led life and 13.69 years(2025) at 10000 hours. Of course this would require you driving your car every single day for two hours a day for this lifespan. Sorry, day before memorial day weekend and work is dead. Nothing better to do. Now everyone have a GREAT weekend and be safe. No more wrecked Z's or any car for that matter!

I am looking at the Tekarbon mod myself. I just don't know about the black inside the lens. Almost too much black.

Also note, the dark grey headlights used in the 3.0i is called charcoal or something to that effect, their not black but after I installed the M bumper on my car I noted the headlights match the brake cooling ducts that the M uses, as they are the same color as the 3.0i headlight housing which is nice as the colors match so it all works visually, the painted headlights are to black and create a visual mismatch of colors. It works on some cars others not so much.

Tekarbon does angel eyes which involves opening the headlight and laying CF as well. IF they can do it you should be able to have that done but instead of CF you can just get some really nice paint in there and it might actually look better than OEM.

I spoke with the Tekarbon and they sent me a couple of shots of a black z with blacked painted lights, I also search bimmerfest and found several older threads that showed pictures of the project done without painting and I am going with that. I want enough silver to off set the black. The car goes in for a touch up paint job and aero side skirt install and I have the black reflectors to go over the red and yellow ones, if I go with all black lights that is too much for my tastes.
Regards. I'll post pictures once everything is done.
