Hitting the 3-Year Mark

I just wanted to share.

So next week on the 18th I'm coming up on completing my 3rd year of ownership of my '08 3.0si Coupe. I've been a BMW owner for 30 years and have 3 in the fleet at the moment. I just have to say I think the Z4 Coupe is one of the best cars BMW ever produced. It is inexpensive to purchase used (this is my first used BMW I've ever bought - doubt I'll buy another use car of any brand), inexpensive to maintain (at least with the N52) and a frickin' blast to drive. I was out hammering her last night on my way home (I get to daily drive some really excellent rural roads), and I just never get bored with this car; it's just always just alive in your hands. The chassis is so good that it never goes just the same over the same roads, something is always just a little different each time you drive it.

The only issues I've had are a noisy throughout bearing (fingers crossed) and a broken rear muffler mount (welded back into shape for a 6-pack). I'll address the t-bearing over Christmas break.

This car continuously makes me feel like a teenager with his first car. She's a keeper.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Efthreeoh...Gotta say I'm in agreement with your thoughts. Think the 3.0si is just an all around great ride . A willing engine, a precise gearbox, and solid road manners combine to cause a smile every time I climb into it.

Ditto all the above. I’ve had my 3.0si since 2009 and I wouldn’t part with it.

I just turned 6 months with my roadster, weekends don't come fast enough.

My first experience with BMW was a 325i (E30), the cars are the only other women my wife has ever accepted. 😎

Keep the analog magic special.

I am at 2 years and 11 months with our 3.0si coupe. A couple of minor fixes covered by our maxcare plan. Enjoyable car and looking to replace my 2008 528i with another coupe or a 135i or an e92 m3. Tough decisions ahead, but the Z4 is a strong contender as it is such a reliable fun car to drive.

To Max out our CarMax warranty we are going to have to put 65,000 miles on the Bed in the next two years.

I hit my 3 year mark with my Si roadster then a weak later got into an accident and it’s totalled. Such a bummer. It was my weekend/sunny day car. Being in Maryland this meant I drove it about 6 months per year. It was such a fun little worry free car to drive!

So now I’m considering what to do next. I still want a roadster but the options are limited to a 25k budget. I’m thinking of going the M route or the Boxster S. Are the maintenance costs much more for the M? Any other cars to consider with the 250> HP?

Sorry to hear about the demise of your Roadster. Get another one.
