Paddle Shifters

Is it possible to fit/rewire a set of the newer paddle shifters on a 2006 3.0i, so that theres one down shift and one up?

I know that after the 04/04 build the Z4 got a universal wiring harness, and had all the connectors in place and it was as simple as getting a multi function steering wheel with shifters and it was plug and play. If you are talking about the larger paddles being added to your existing Wheel ( up sift one side and down shift on the other side ) I do believe it would be plug and play on your 06. I believe the larger paddles have only one switch, hence the one paddle for the same function left and right. I do not know for sure if the 06 has the connectors in place for a plug and play DIY, I would venture to say that most likely it is, as it is cheaper to build one harness that 3 special ones ( standard, MF, MF with paddles ). I would suggest that you pull the Steering wheel and verify connectors are there for your use. IMHO the harness is most likely there, however, iy would be set up for the standard paddle shifters ( OEM ) up/down shifting on either side.

I did it on my 08 328i. I originally had steptronic paddle shifters and I bought DCT paddles from an M3. Take apart the steering wheel and then install. Took maybe 30min to do. Hardest part is figuring out how to get the air bag out. There are a lot of threads about it in the e90 forums section. There are also people that added the entire harness since they didn't have any paddles to begin with.
