The difference in size between 2 pulleys is hardly noticeable (2-3mm). I just want to make sure that I am getting close psi numbers as I paid for.

So far, only 6psi with the P3 gauge and 2 psi has to be close to 50hp and 15 torque.
im out in the car sunday for a good few hours.... but on my own so, ill try and work out a way of filming the boost gauge....

are you struggling for traction in 2nd gear???

6 and 8 are very different. Boost varies based on temperature, but not by that much.

No, (well kinda) but it's not cold here like in the UK. It's 38 degrees Celcius.

Agreed.

I will calibrate gauge again after it sits all night.

What size super charger pulley is on the 525? I want to check to make sure I have the correct size. There were a few additional parts, as well as some missing. I want to make sure someone didn't put the incorrect size in the box.

No, trying to trouble shoot everything that they will ask when I contact them. So, I can let them know I tested it.

Can't quite get a proper reading on the pulley size due to my large digital caliper... Appears to be around 3.2" .... Will try again when it's not so hot in the engine bay....

I did another pull in 3rd after making sure that everything was very tight. It was 75 degrees if that makes a difference which is pretty cool. I got 5.8 on the digital P3 gauge. The highest have ever seen is 6.5.

It may be hard to read the actual inside diameter with the belt on. We could just read the outside, just to make sure I have the correct size.

I also double checked that 2 pulleys were changed out.

hows belt tension??

is the boost gauge accurate?? consider ghetto rigging a mecanical unit and just run the lines through the hood/windshield way... i then held the unit in my hand and did a long 3rd gear pull as it climbs slower....

Belt tension is excellent. I have also thought about moving the T just below the bypass valve. I kinda suspect air intake because it seems to build up and then goes flat. Upon install, it seemed that the air filter was on the small side.

To update the thread:

Well, I emailed AJ at ESS. He said that I had a boost leak or air intake restrictions based on my issue. I opened up the area around the air intake ( I made a wall that covered 1 inch of the back half of the filter to create high pressure area). I pulled 7.3 psi in 3rd and did a pull on a nearly deserted freeway in 4th and got 9.3psi on peak recall. The car nearly scared the hell out of me. I will fabricate something to increase the air to the filter.

Ahh , interesting , I still don't see how your filter isn't exposed to enough air , I'd be more concerned about the cheap connector kinking off.

I was excited when this kit came out....now it seems there isn't a single car with it that is running properly....my buddy with his e39 m5 had a bunch of parts missing out of his ess kit when he bought it too...seems to me to be a business issue

Parts missing or incorrect parts are a standard issue with all manufacturers it seems. I'm not saying they shouldn't be held accountable. However, it's common.

The bigger issue is the end product requiring modification. The "BMWness" of a car gets lost when things are missed during R&D process, and you end up with quirks, annoyances, and limitations that weren't there previously. The goal should be to get the car to drive exactly as it drove before the install, just with more power. Unfortunately, many use a "power increase to cost" ratio as the sole factor in determining a kit's value. There are many things that ratio doesn't tell you. If a manufacturer spends extra time tweaking a kit, that's time he hasn't spent selling kits. And, a better tuning staff costs more money. If a kit is released too early, the customer ends up doing the R&D, with "excellent" customer support from the manufacturer.

This isn't a knock on ESS, as they tend to spend some time on a kit before releasing it. Others do more, and others do less. ESS seems to have been good at helping customers sort through issues in the past. Hopefully everything will be right shortly.
