z4 m coupe build quality and reliabilty
hello, i was reading an issue of "car" magazine a few months back and they had an article about teh m coupe. one of the issues it noted was that teh build quality wasnt befitting of a car of its marque. it mentioned interior bits falling off. this is a concern for me, as im seriously looking at this car in the near future.
anyone here have stories to tell about teh m coupe and any issues with it besides that, it looks like a nice ride, ill definitley get a test drive to see if its worth the price of admission |

The engine, transmission, LSD, brakes are bullet proof. The cosmetics are not the best - after all it is made in the USA....
My coupe has some creaks as well as an a/c vent that rattles. |

thats what i been reading as well, the interior trims r a little suspect. the car magazine mentioned the door handles and other plastic trims were a little cheap for a bmw, and some fell off.
as far as creaks go, it really shouldnt be happening so early, and only really if its a convertible. my s2000 has clocked up 105k km, and the roof latches rattle a little, but i dont have any creaks from the interior trim |

Artz had a lemon for awhile (not to mention that he ran it for all it was worth). But overall, as you can see, he stuck with the BMW brand. Has a little heartburn towards our beloved roadsters, but.....
Cheers! |

I also have heartburn towards the "Roasters". I used to have a black Z4M "Roaster". BMW took it back after 5 months because the roof & windows were not syncronised, the a/c vent rattled, & there were squeaks galore. It must have spent at least a month at the dealership out of the 5 months I had it. I give BMW credit for replacing it.

Yeah - I wonder too. BMW went to the extent of measuring the roof to see if anything was 'off' and replacing the on-board computer. It still did not work. The squeaks had been fixed & a/c vent replaced.
They probably sold it.... I saw it sitting at the dealership for sale. It looked VERY nice! Before they replaced it they were saying that these things happen and I should accept them as part of the "Roaster" Experience. Yeah right! |

it only has a Z3 3.0 transmission and the second gear synchro is crap and will fail eventually.
the M Roadster demo i drove did it. Mine does it and a few others in Canada have the same problem. One guy got a new tranny but it's not been uprated so it will eventually fail as well. a bunch of us are getting together to call BMW canada to make them take the issue seriously. we'll see what happens. i've had many bits fall off inside the car too. the dealer is addressing it. my front wheels have been out of balance since new and it's taking forever to get it addressed.

The Z3 3.0i had ZF type C transmission. The Z4M has ZF type H transmission.
