Love the clutch stop, now that I had a full afternoon to drive with it. Best $10 mod you can do. Though I have made an adjustment when the car would not start ( after it had started several times at the highest setting, which would allow it to start ) I then had the problem ONCE today, as I wanted to pull into the garage after a little detailing. Now I'm wondering if I just happen to be having a starter/solenoid issue ? Not even sure if this 06 HAS a solenoid ?

I just read through majority of this thread, how do you know where the best point to adjust the stop is at? It seems to me you could harm the clutch or trans if the clutch pedal isnt allowed to get completely engaged

Put key in accessory, hand push in clutch, you will hear a slight click ( there is a magnetic switch that will come "on" ), take 2 more turns screwing in ( away from clutch ), set the locking nut. Though you need to drive it to be sure. As stated, I've had to make 2 additional adjustments and am wondering if I've got a ghost in the machine with starter/solenoid.

Keep a wrench in the glove for the day when a high temperature causes the 2 turn in to not be enough due to expansion.
Ask me how I know!

I've had 2 occurrences now, where I've turned the key....and nothing. Both times it was after I had driven the car for a period of time, shut it off, restarted multiple times and then I can't pull into the garage, to put the car to bed ( 2 car covers ) I've read of others having this happen. Sat 81*, it was intermittent, so What is heating up. The bolt is getting appreciably longer ? Sounds strange. Bolts don't grow. The clutch ? Sure, it gets warmed up on ANY day, hot or cold. But is the point of engagement changing ? My 17mm opened end wrench is in my glovebox.

Same issue here. Almost seems like the bolt works its way out somehow. Oh well still love the mod.

A little spot of Loctite? I just received the eBay clutch stop and haven't installed it yet (car is under cover/snow.) I wonder how the nut tightened against a washer which is tightening against carpet is going to stay put? I don't see how it can.

Decent piece of hardware for $10 shipped.

So I made mine myself from the specs on here. I don't have a nut on it, what do they use a lock washer to keep it from coming out? Not sure how well it would hold either so I didn't try yet.

Just a regular flat washer and nut.

Yes you want a locknut. It keeps the stop from moving.

Okay maybe I'm going crazy but how can a lock nut keep it from turning out? I understand how it can keep it from going in but not out. Do you put it that crazy right that it somehow binds?

Adjust the clutch magnetic switch to a higher point. (1cm) 5 min job. then you won't have to worry about not starting. it's been at least 5 years when I installed it, never a problem with heat or on the track.

OK, now I'm going to want to move mine. Do you mind sharing where The magnetic switch is and how to move it up. I felt like the engagement point was further out, but the switch was not letting me go out the far.

Going to search for the switch tomorrow, still having my intermittent non starting problems. Drove the car as a daily driver this week, as GF went into reverse, drunk at 3:00 AM to make a run for the boarder ON HER 30th BD....$3,700 in damage to the front of my gas sipping Honda Insight Hybrid....Put 300 miles on Z4M this week. If I don't get immediate start up, I let the clutch out, push in AGAIN and it starts. Not sure what is going on, but never happened before install of Clutch Stop.

Ahhhh, thank goodness for Bill. I've seen his VERY DETAILED page on other projects. I should have guessed he would have it all spelled out. Thanks for the direction.

If you guys are having issues with starting, all it means is you're not leaving enough margin for the magnetic clutch switch. Just leave another 1/8" to 1/4" when you hear the relay switch click! I had mine on for almost 6 years now - not a single starting issue (knock on wood).

.....or you could just code the switch out completely.
Euro cars don't have the switch & it's easy to code the module to the same setting.

So how does a travel limiter on my clutch pedal affect performance? Or the behaviour of the clutch as it doesn't have anything to do with it? Can't really understand it. And most of the time I'm driving on the limit, whether on track or canyon/mountain drives. What is it that you don't like and you're fixing with this?

It's the length of travel pushing in and then the length of travel out, till engagement. With the Stop Clutch, both of these are shortened, which is quicker. It's a nice precise point without the wasted travel.

The very first time I drove a zed I thought "why is the clutch pedal travel so dadblasted long?!?" If you don't feel that way, then you don't need to worry about the clutch pedal stop *modification* discussed here. (All zeds with a clutch pedal have a pedal stop; some of us just think it is too short and allows too much unneeded travel.)
