That looks pretty damn good man! The edge on passenger side I see a lot of silicone, I'm assuming that's the piece you stated was not done correctly or similar to the other side

Is it really that bad on mine? I was really expecting a professional shop to be able to mount this, as I'm not very good with this kind of work. You guys think I should go back to the OEM?

Take more pics out in sunlight Redacre for a more accurate opinion (if you want it). Like I stated earlier, no shop is gonna put more effort than you ever will on something that they're gonna do EXACTLY the same as you would so in cases like those, a DIY would be best. If you like how your spoiler looks, keep it on there man. Some of us are just A holes with ourselves

exactly where you saw the tape on those pics i mentioned.... is exactly where the addionital silicone on both sides..... no other way to make it neat.... in relation to it not sitting totally even it has no bearing on the raised sections of the spoiler, this was a manufacturing thing, and if you dont fill with silicone or similar it shows up REAL bad , i spotted it a mile off from those pics a page back, and it looks even worse in the flesh...

in relation of where its sitting its literally a case of one side sits very very slightly more forward than the other but its not noticeable to the naked eye. we are talking tiny measurements.

overall I'm very happy!!

lets see your effort ross!! nice and up close with the flash on, show me hows its done !!!

I suspect the first few lips that came off were released from the mold a bit quick in an effort to expedite delivery and were not quite ready for release.
dbarton62, I absolutely think that is the case. As one at the end of the list, my spoiler only has very slight gaps on the ends I can hardly see light through just laying it on the trunk, which I'm sure I will make fit right once taped. I guess I jumped the gun assuming all were made in the same batch.

May I ask what you used to apply pressure to the tape for such a nice fit?

ZeD4Mr, the reason the ends are pulling up is not from the carbon fiber composite, it is from the thermoset polymer "plastic" fill. The spoilers either need to be better braced while the monomer polymerizes, or not pulled from the mold before the "plastic" completely sets and is no longer warm to the touch. Pulling the part out of the mold while the chemical reaction is still taking place will cause it to shrink, which is exactly what I suspect is occurring with the edges pulling up toward the larger center mass.

Either way love it and all the pictures so far, can't wait until it is warm enough to install.

I did not use any pressure other than normal body wait at time of installation.
I had "perfected" the fit by heating and refitting as required.

Had to come back to this to update...

Saw a brand new m2 with bmw performance spoiler just added at my local dealer.... i could not believe how rough the fitment was, tape squished out of the sides, spoiler was kicking up at the edges really not good at all.

i came back and gave myself a pat on the back, as someone said a few pages back, no one will go to the effort of what you will on your pride and joy.

BTW i love and appreciate this piece much much much more after seeing that m2 item. Even with the fitment pains this piece really is beautiful, so thanks again OP.

anyone else fit theirs?

I've since spoken with the manufacturer and they were under pressure during the X'mas season to get all the orders out. Since my prototype fits fairly well for an aftermarket piece, hence the GB, but I do also believe the first few were a bit rushed. I agreed with both of your logic.

Thank again for your support on this project and I've seen some brand new BMW MPE stuff standalone or installed; design wise, not very impressive; fitment wise, just b/c it's OE, they still don't fit 100% every time. Of course, the quality of the parts are very well made.
You looking at the M2? I have my money on the M2CS if it ever comes to reality.

Finally getting warm enough I'm considering a little heat gun work and getting this finally mounted up!

Has anyone else installed theirs recently? I'm really excited to finally get this on my car, wondering if anyone else has pictures?

And as always, thanks ZeD4Mr

Need this and an airbox......... but done in fibreglass. Cosmetically, not a fan of CF. Also, FG is a hell of a lot cheaper.

mines been on for ages as per the pics, looks absolutely ACE, and really finishes the roadster!

im so glad i got this as its really a one off, fitment is difficult... no doubt... to get this right requires time and patience due to the complex shape of the boot lid and the spoiler not being 100%.... with some work , it looks perfect!

one of my favourite additions!

The last ones were all sold via pm. Many have been asking to do another GB. If there's enough interest, I might do another one in a few months.

TIA,

I don't have any left so we can start an interest list. This is not a committed list. An official GB list will be posted once I confirm about pricing etc. When interest list hits 15, I'll ask them to do another run and start an official GB list. Please add yourself to the list.
