WTB: Z4x CD changer (MP3-compatible)
Looking for an OEM CD changer, produced after whatever date in '04 or '05 when MP3 compatibility was introduced. PM me.

As an alternate, you can always buy an Alpine CHA-S634 with a BMW adapter. It's the exact same physical size and function as the BMW changer. I just sold mine that I had used on my X5 (with the BMW bracket) for almost 10 years without a single issue.
Do you really need to play CDs? If you just want MP3s, then something like the GROM module, which uses a USB thumb drive would have better capacity. As a bonus, it's easier to install on our cars (without having to rip the center console apart). Only reason I sold the Alpine changer on my X5 was to replace it with the GROM module. |

why would you need to rip the center console apart to install a CD changer? the harness is preinstalled, you just....
ahh rear center console. stupid, i knew that. i thought you meant the front console and was like wtf are you taking that apart for. OP, I have a dice silverline pro module I'd sell you for $70 shipped. This is the item: http://www.amazon.com/Dice-i-BMW-T-S.../dp/B000JVQWVQ This is the installation manual: http://www.bavariansoundwerks.com/pr...ons_-_DICE.pdf I have DSP, but was using it without the DSP module, so I would discount that requirement in the Amazon listing. The item is wrapped in stick-on felt with a piece of velcro on one side, for quiet and easy installation. The configuration dip switches and the ports are still exposed. Never had an issue with it, I just removed it because I retrofitted the 07+ aux port onto my 06 and thats all I was using it for anyways. |

Thanks all. I have a USA*Spec iPod adapter, but it sounds like ass. I also have one in my ZHP, but that amp is analog and it's a different model and sounds clean as a whistle. I want to ditch it for a changer, I can load it with MP3s and be good to go. Not interested in a Dice or GROM at this point.
XMetal, that sounds like a good idea. There are several of those changers on Ebay, but can you tell me more about the BMW adapter and where I'd find it? Thanks.

Here's what you need:
You missed my ebay listing by about 2 months. Here's how the setup looks like when it was in my X5: |

TWO adapters required? Yikes. Thanks for all the detailed info, I may have to look into this.

It's just 1 "true" adapter. The other is really just an interface (connector) converter - that short cable in the the picture above.
FYI...Here's a review of the setup done by "madrussian" => http://m3.madrussian.net/review_alpine.shtml Last edited by XMetal; 02-22-2014 at 07:06 PM.. |
