I have an LG flip-phone. Yea, I'm old.
Gives me an excuse not to reply to texts. I put a stickyish rubber pad under the hand brake and set it on that. Next up: Jitterbug. Soon after: Life Alert. "I've fallen, and I can't find second gear!!"

I have my iPhone hooked up to the aux input and drop it next to the seat near the seatbelt. Never touch it. Don't like the attention it begs to have due to use/conditioning. Out of sight.... That said I do like RAM mounts for track for video. Heavy. Solid. Keep vibration minimal. Looks like they have other options to. http://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-HOL-AP18U |

CD slot phone mount. I jack the phone into the aux input. I also keep a power cable in the car. I routed the aux cable so it comes up through the ashtray. I can wrap up the power cable in there too and hide the whole works.
I use the phone for maps and Sirius so I like it to be in view. The CD slot mount does that job very well. I may move to an iPad soon for in-car use and if I do I'll probably go with ProClip. |

I think I'm one of the rare folks who finds the OEM Bluetooth function in the E85 / E86 Z4 to be more or less okay for making and receiving voice calls, even with the top down. I've seen lots of folks comment that they are very dissatisfied with it, and while I've had the occasional problem getting the voice command to recognize a command, usually with the top down in a noisy location, for the most part its worked well.
I wonder if BMW changed out the unit for the 2006+ life-cycle refresh?

The OEM Bluetooth phone functionality is less than desirable top up or down in my estimation.
I find my calls (in-coming) to be difficult to hear but have rectified this with an earpiece that works well. |

I wonder why there is such a difference. Your car is a 2006 or later?

I think mine is called a "pocket". It comes standard on the types of pants I like to wear.

I use a magnetic mount in the Lexus. Taped to the dash (I've removed them from cars after years of use with no marks). Very handy. If I wasn't going with an iPad I'd keep using the magnet mounts.

I took the advice of a magnetic mount and find that the magnetic attraction with my iPhone 6 in an Otterbox Defender case isn't that strong. I may return it. I love the idea though.

Ahh, sorry about that. I use a slim line case so I had no problems w/getting a strong magnetic attraction. I guess now we know it doesn't work with thick cases.

pretty sure if you hook your phone up to BT in the car, you can take handsfree calls etc , so it doesn't really matter where your phone is, i chuck mine in the cargo net pax side.

True that the phone can be anywhere for calls, but if you use it for navigation it needs to be visible.
I am trying out an iPad Mini for nav duties. Now I have to find a place to toss the phone! |
