Pictures from Virginia Int'l Raceway & Summit Pt

Had a chance to participate in 2 NASA HPDE events in the past month. Some shots of my car as well as others from the GTS at VIR.

I managed to keep up with the 135i but everytime we hit the straights, he'd put distance on me.

Cool pics. I guess you decided to ditch the painters' tape after a few runs?

Yea, I put it on during day 1 as a precaution. But afterwards, I noticed the track was well maintained so didn't feel the need for it.

Interestingly enough, my instructor from this past weekend at Summit has a 1M and it hit limp mode in session 3, and following morning he had to return to pit in middle of session 4 - turns out the charge pipe cracked (which apparently is a common issue at the Performance Delivery School).

Plenty of clubs can get you on the track. I'm a member of NASA but there are other car-specific clubs, ie PCA (Porsche), CCA (BMW), etc that also hold trackday events. Join any one of these clubs and then check their calendar of events. You want to look for "HPDE" or "DE" events.

Trackdaze is another option, no membership fee but you have to attend at least 1 event.

Thanks, I have to dig up some pics but VIR had a fair share of GTR's, GT2, and even an Aston.

Track days definitely are not cheap, you gotta pay to play! =P

But with that said, you get decent amount of driving time. NASA typically offers 2.5hrs of driving, and 2.5hrs of classroom over a 2 day event.

Considering auto-x is typically $60, and you get about 6-7 runs, each run lasting about 1 min, that's $10 per MINUTE. But $400 of 2.5hrs track = $2.67 per minute, excluding classroom time so it's good value. That of course doesn't include gas/hotel if the track is far from you but still. But there are deals to be found, I've seen track events as low as $325 so you just have to be a little picky =)

You should also look up any events at Giant Stadium, the pavement is new, and the courses are typically much longer than other local events. Make sure you bring a helmet (motorcycle is fine), else you may have to pay extra to borrow (sometimes they lend for free).

Some say he's wanted by the CIA, and that he sleeps upside down like a bat... all we know is, he's called the Stig!

Definitely, can't wait for Watkins in a few weeks... putting on new tires, camber plates, new lines, fluid and race pads.

Looks like a great group to run with! I just got back from a weekend at the track and am already wanting more, fortunately there is another event on the schedule for next week

Exact reason I decided to keep my Coupe and not get a 1M even when tempted, spend too many weekends at the track to worry about having a car go into limp mode, especially here in the South where air temps are 100+humidity in the summers.
