Help! EML light

[2003Z4]

Just in case someone has the same problems as I did...

After updating the software for the computer, all the problems (see below) went away... unbelievable.


Was wondering if anyone can help me with an issue:

my car: 2003 Z4 2.5i, auto, 46k miles, weekend car

Symptoms:
When the engine is cold and I start the car, the engine starts up briefly before shutting itself off and displaying EML light (yellow). Sometimes, the RPM will be irratic before it shuts itself off and displays yellow EML AND red check engine light. It sometimes take several tries before it will stay idling normally.
This only seems to happen when the engine is cold and the car runs just fine afterwards.

Corrective actions so far:
Took the car to a local (reputable) mechanic and replaced the throttle body and the mass air flow sensor - did not fix the problem.
