Question regarding winter tires
I'm sure this discussion happened multiple times but when I used search, I couldn't find it.
I have style 107 Ellipsoid rims staggered (sport package) set up. I wanna buy winter tires tomorrow and I was wondering if it's possible to put 225's all around rather than 225/255? Will they fit correctly? I need to know this ASAP! Unfortunately people at my local Just Tires tend to be quite dumb about that :/

So 225/40 R18 Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60 all around will do the trick?
I tell you driving in winter on summer tires is loads of fun until you see a tiniest hill :P

This is footage of Dunlop Winter Sport 3D 225/40-18 square setup winter tires.
One is about 3-4" of snow. The other is a dusty autocross circuit in January. The Blizzaks will be similar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unAH-k_EYm8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tyl5vQZS5YA

What if I decided to run 255 at the back staggered? Would that significantly limit tires ability to perform?

I've got staggered on my //m. Just like above stated a little less grip. I like that the rims are filled out properly and adds some protection to the rear rims. If you do run a skinner tire on the rear make sure that the rear rims are marked and placed back on the rear since they are .5 inch wider.

I'd go even 195 or 215. Wider tires don't dig in as well into the snow. Right now I'm 225 blizzaks all around, and its pretty twitchy

Well if my rear rim is gonna touch the road because I've picked the 225 rather than 255, I will go with staggered set up then. I'm no expert when it comes to tires but 0.5inch seems a lot.

You get an increased sidewall to compensate. If you run 225's all around on an M, to preserve the correct diameter you need to run a "higher" series sidewall. I would also not go narrower than 225 on a RWD car with 330 hp...

come on people please do some research before recommending WIDER snow tires vs skinnier ones.
as for the z4m having 330hp is almost irrelevant, whats relevant is the amount of torque you're putting to the ground in low-medium rpms in snow. Its not like you're racing... http://www.tirerack.com/winter/tech/...sp?techid=126&

225 is plenty narrow enough, I run square 225's for snows and I would not want to go any narrower because everyday driving will be compromised even more.
Torque in the snow has nothing to do with it, every car has a throttle and you're likely going to be gentle in bad weather. You might want to be able to use some of that torque on dry roads though, which may get pretty dicey if you nail the gas with 195's on the rear. With 225 width Michelin PA3's, oversteer is very easy to provoke. |

Same here. They work wonders for snow driving. Just drive at a reasonable speed, in snow that's not too high, and you can go anywhere on these tires.

I decided to get LM22 215/45 18 front and LM25 255/45 18 rear. Got a great deal on them! They should be here by Tuesday. It's gonna snow entire next week, so I will let you know how well they handle!
