steering rack adjustment

I bought a steering rack from a 2008 z4 (non m) that I am planning to retrofit into my e30. The one I ordered is a bit loose so I'm looking to service it before install. I adjusted the lash screw and I'm able to eliminate the slop but I'd like to figure out the oem spec if I can. Has anyone come across the manual for this thing?

I'm tempted to pull the pinion out so I can remove the the actual rack itself but it looks like it's a bit different than the hydraulic units I've seen before. Complicated in its simplicity. I pulled the top nut off (unlike the hydraulic racks, the shaft does not go through to the bottom) and figure the best way to get it out is to clamp it with an aluminum jaw vice and pull the rack away from it. Anyone else been into one of these before?

If It's too much effort I'm just going to snug it up until it just reaches the point of zero play, grease as much as I can reach with fresh stuff and slam it into the car.
