service engine soon

Well , I did something stupid last weekend. After filling the M I was so worried about spilling fuel while filling container for seadoo that i drove one hour north to cottage with gas cap off. Of course service engine soon light came on after next start. Will it go out ? Ive driven about 150 miles so far- no luck. Should i try disconnecting neg battery cable?

I have done this before and just reset the light with a scanner and it never came back on.

It should go away on its own with due time. However, it will retain a stored code, even with the SES light off. Not a big deal, unless you have emissions checks with OBD scan, in which case it becomes a big deal. As mentioned, you can clear the light if you are impatient with an OBD scan tool (same effect is achieved by disconnecting the negative battery terminal) - this will also clear the stored code.
