Old member, new owner... finally!
Hello everyone, I'm Chris and I've been around for awhile mainly searching and drooling. I had a 325ci back in 2005 which I got rid of for my dream car at the time, a 350Z. I love the 350Z and I have driven over 175,000 miles between two of them but in 2012 I found out I was going to be a daddy and sold the Z for a Fusion. My girl was driving the Fusion and I was forced to drive her Civic. We traded in the Fusion for a turbo Kia Sportage since we needed more room and we got a great deal. During this time, I started a business and set a goal that I needed to reach by my birthday in August of this year to bu myself another sports car since my son, Aiden, has never seen the inside of the civic. I hit my goal in April but talked myself out of buying what would really just be a toy for myself.
My birthday came and went and I was really getting the bug for a new car. My girl encouraged me to start looking again, find something that I liked and buy it. I thought I found the perfect car near Atlanta but being in Florida would be difficult for me to go see. I PM'd a couple members who lived in or near the dealership to see if any of them would be able to check out the car for me. I literally got responses within minutes and chickdr actually checked the car out for me the next day!! Also thanks to AmmarYasirA, Dine and jophish17!! Chickdr advised me that the car was not the one and I passed based on his assessment. The next day a one owner 06 3.0i 6spd with preimum package and 186k on the odometer pops up. My post about that car is a few threads down and for the price and being local, it was worth checking out. It was clean, drove great and the price was too good to pass up. Here she is in her stock beauty... Also, is this a badly faded black top or a gray top? Either way, I'll be dyeing the top black and am looking to lower the car and get rims. She does have a bit of a rough start that I'll be addressing by cleaning the ICV, MAF and VANOS solenoid (I think?) and any other suggestions, I greatly appreciate. Besides the start, the car idles smooth and accelerates great. I forgot how smooth the I6 is and it especially shows coming from the 350Z's V6. I remember when I had my 325ci that I always thought to myself, "This car would be a lot of fun with a manual tranny" and I will never go back to a automatic for my personal car ever again (well the civic was not by choice). |

Check the drain plugs for the softtop & the cabin air filter for leaves/debris.
Other then that, congrats on the zed!!

I have a suggestion! Change your "Drives" info
The top looks gray to me, but it could just be faded if it is a FL car and has been outside all the time. How is the windshield surround trim and plastic tray at the bottom of the windshield? Those are frequently found to be deteriorated on Z4's.... |

Looks lovely man, always liked the white zeds.
Regarding top, I recommend using something like 303 fabric guard after dying. It will reduce water absorption and also help protect against birds/uv a bit. It will also darken the top a bit. Regarding the cracked plastic parts mentioned by Chick, I recommend 303 aerospace protectant. This stuff also works great on the interior - it helps protect and shine the plastic. gc |

Congratulations!! The car looks very nice indeed!!
I would definitley apply some convertible top conditioner as noted above. However, I'd be very reluctant to dye the top, even if it is faded from black. And, I've aseen tan tops on Z4's (there is one in my town actually) so I'd check to be sure that grey was not a factory roof color for this car. Cheers!!

Looks like gray, I don't see how black could fade that far.
You'd be surprised how much of a difference a good cleaning and conditioning with RaggTopp will make. |

Thanks guys! I really do want the top to be black though and I will be dyeing it black in the near future.
My rough start issue comes and goes. I haven't got the cleaning the parts yet but I have a feeling the starter might not make it to Christmas. Also, the shift knob twists about 10 degrees left and right so I'll be searching for a fix for that also. I have been trying to find pictures of AW's with rims (most in the AW thread are on stockers). Not sure which color & style I like best yet with this color since I was initially looking for a black or silver Z4. I love the car and my girl is actually picking up driving stick pretty quickly. Looking forward to a nice cool night when our son is at grandma's and we can go out to dinner |

I would suggest getting a ZHP shift knob as it will give you better feel. The original one is likely just worn out(The one in the car I drove for you was much worse). Here is one place you can pick it up(cheaper than a stock replacement knob...) http://www.roadstersolutions.com/page89.html

I thought my 325ci beeped when I locked/unlocked the doors but the Z4 doesn't beep. Is there a way to turn that beep on? Thanks, Chris |

I much prefer the bmw performance shift knob. The starter issue, possibly a batt that's on the way out?
What is it a actually doing when u crank the car? Not sure Chris, mine doesn't beep also when unlocked. My z3 did though. |

As for the ZHP shift knob suggestion - the best way to acquire one is attached to a ZHP. They make nice garage mates for Z4's.

I agree with the BMW performance shifters. I've heard great stuff about them.
Oh, and Z4 cup holders suck. Get ultimate cupholders

It might just be in my head also since my Sportage has a push button start and it feels like it is fired up before you even press the button. |

The beeping can be coded on or off I believe. Even perhaps without the alarm??
Regarding the start, I would start (no pun) with the battery. Taking a long time to crank usually indicates a worn battery (as long as engine is ok) - things will get worse as the weather gets colder too. You might even have the original battery in there! Mine only went out last year. -gc |

Welcome to the AW Z4 club. What color interior and seats do you have?
Also love my ZHP shift knob. One of the only additions I have done to my Z. Steve |

Very nice car congrats! The top looks gray to me, but I actually think it looks better than a black top on a white car. It gives it more of an elegant look

But if the top is working properly and is watertight, I think you'd be much better off spending your money on other mods, such as some new Apex or VMR (718s are wicked) rims.
