airbag SRS code on due to battery?

Just took my Z4 out of storage today... Put the battery back in, started it up fine, however, now I have the airbag SRS light on. Noticed a few threads across the forums for this issue, however, not due to the same circumstances as mine.

Can connecting the battery trip an SRS fault code? In my 8 years of zed ownership, hadn't seen this before.

Only way to clear the code is dealer/indy shop/INPA software? Auto parts stores won't go near this code due to liability? I feel safe that I somehow caused electrical fault while putting battery back in and this is not indicative of a real problem.

I'm presuming everything else in the car is fine, it's been sitting for 5 1/2 months.

Impossible to tell without knowing the code. If you come by the Chicagoland area at all I can pull the code for you.

Thanks for the offer! Granted I could use a nice road trip, I'm planning on an oil change at my indy shop this week so I'll probably have them read/clear the code. However, I'd like to obtain a proper cable & software so I could do this myself in the future.

If you've got a terminal block on the driver's side of the battery well, check for tightness and/or corrosion there. That's the feed point for the SRS computer. Numerous posts about issues there causing an SRS light.

If the code(s) you're throwing suggest over resistance in the airbag system I posted a DIY about cleaning the various connectors/contacts in the steering wheel airbag system. 1 hours worth of your time.

right now the light is on and no codes are being thrown, unsure if it is a communication problem or an electrical problem

I may backtrack to everything I've touched over the last couple of days; going to go back and electrical clean any of the connectors I bumped in the battery compartment as well as a couple under the seat

dealer appt is set for tomorrow so this will be my last night of work

Hope you don't have the problem I had - fault in the ABS Module ( brake, traction and tire lights all went yellow ). All shortly after the original battery died .
Well I decided to check on mine today - the fairly new battery ( 2 years old ?) is just about dead to ?. Well I disconnected the one wire off the battery an am charging the battery now.??

Figured it out! Light is out now after clearing codes from a couple of sections other than the one related to SRS. The C310+ did its job, however, it's a little cryptic figuring it all out. Definitely keeping it now.
